I'm very much a people person & highly empathetic. I knew I wanted to be a caretaker/Nurse since high school working as a volunteer in local hospital. I come from a family of caretakers so it's in my genetics. I've done many aspects of caregiving from rooming patients in local clinic to skilled unit in nursing facility & Alzheimer's unit. I love geriatric care due to the respect I have for the elderly. I love being a caregiver because our elders need our help because they can't do it on their own anymore. Seeing how happy they are when your helping them and taking care of them is the best thing to see on peoples faces is that smile seeing they are happy and enjoying them selves. I had always watched my mom and grandmothers care for us all. I always knew I wanted to care for people. I worked as an HHA and CNA for 4 years and CMA for 16 year. I enjoy making people happy and comfortable with whatever it is they are experiencing. My father was diagnosed with ALS in 2004 and passed away in 2006. I was honored to be one of his caregivers until he took his last breathe.

Families in Minnesota, FYI, just a heads up about the new Home care laws: Think twice before hiring a caregiver without the supervision of a licensed agency in Minnesota. The State of Minnesota requires any unlicensed direct caregivers (including Certified Nursing Assistants) to have a license...please be sure to check that this is in place prior to hiring them.
