I am empathetic, compassionate, nurturing, attentive, dependable, committed, organized, happy, patient, honest, industrious, quiet, energetic, conscientious, clean and kind.
As a child, I was always in the company of older folks in my community - so much so, that when I was 17 years old I took care of a 76 years old family friend on the weekends for 3 months while still in high school. I was always running to assist them when the need arises. The elderly comes first for me all the times.
I was a volunteer at my church's Assisted Living Facility for 5 years, helping the residents with grooming, dressing, feeding, exercises and just general companionship - chatting and making them happy and joyful.
I just have this natural passion and respect for them and humanity in general. I enjoy the satisfaction that engulfs me when I perform a task that they might feel a little embarrassed about but, because of the manner in which it was done, (privacy, respect) they just looked at me and say thank you so much, Joan or just smile confirming satisfaction. I also feel ecstatic and encouraged when family members and friends use words like - "Joan, you are the best" "you are a God-send", "you are special", "Joan, I could never do what you do". and you do your work with such professionalism.
I am very proud that, through hard work and commitment to serve , I have gained the trust and respect of all seniors I have met and cared for.
I am a compassionate, reliable, fun , and loving. I am a mom, grandmother, friend and caregiver.
I first became a caregiver in 1995, after the loss of a family member and close friend. I have worked in group homes, one on one, senior care, and private duty. I have been trained in Florida, Indiana and Tennessee. I can pass a level 2 background. I have First Aid/ CPR, and a clean driving record.
I feel honored to be a caregiver. I am honored to be trusted with families loved ones. I treat each client like I would my own my family.
I enjoying seeing my client reach even the smallest of goals. I like cheering them on and assisting them to reach for the stars.
In 2003 I worked with a male legally blind, and he only crawled. The mother was told he would never walk, and never see. We found a specialist 2 hours away who made a special lens for my buddy and when he put those glasses, he looked at me and said I see you. My buddy also learn learned to walk with assistance. This was one of my biggest accomplishments.
I am a great caregiver because I sincerely enjoying working with elderly people, and people with disabilities. The experience I have in caring for your loved one is: Compassion, companionship, patience, home management, meal preparation, errands, appointments, grocery shopping, medication reminders, maintaining a safe environment, assisting with bathing, dressing, and grooming.
I am very passionate, and committed about what I do, as I feel the importance to treat seniors, the way I will one day want to be treated. Having empathy.
I enjoy learning from the seniors I have been with, talking with them, and hearing their stories. Many of times, its never been a dull moment. I know the importance of a senior keeping their independence for as long as they can. Also, it's important to maintain their confidentiality, and be aware of their rights. I became a caregiver when I started taking care of an elderly great aunt.
