I love being a caregiver/CNA. I've been a CNA for over 25 years. It gives me alot of pleasure taking care of the elderly. I'm a very caring & compassionate person. The reason why I started becoming a caregiver was because my brother just got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I used to take care of him before he went into the nursing home. I'm very hard working & enjoy listening to my clients history, for example where they are from & what they used to do for a living. I would treat your loved one like I would my own with up most respect. I really enjoy getting to know my clients & I feel like they are part of my family. If I can make them smile & laugh then I know I'm doing my job because some of my clients don't have much family or friends & they get very lonely & depressed. My personal achievement is taking care of sick & elderly patients.

I became a caregiver 5 years ago fresh out high school after helping my grandma through her breast cancer process. I believe my patients, care, and communication skills make me one out of many great caregivers. I enjoy assisting residents with there every day needs and knowing I'm helping someone accomplish something. I love working with elderly people because they are fun, sweet, understanding, and resourceful with offering advice. I love learning new things from them. I really enjoy listening to their stories from back in their younger days and how their children were as kids. I love when they smile and laugh its very interesting to both me and them. I miss my grandparents and working with seniors reminds me of them, they were very dear to me. I have a tendency of getting attached to them as though they were my own family. I love seeing them smile and I have a way of making them laugh. I love happiness. It makes me feel good knowing that the assistance and care that I provide for them keeps them satisfied and happy.

I didn't learn this from professors in college, instructors during clinical rotations, nor preceptors who oriented me to a new health care position. I learned from our seniors who struggle with dementia, our children who struggle with genetic disease syndrome, and our family, friends and neighbors who struggle with mental illness. I have been blessed with the opportunity to work in the areas of geriatric, pediatric, and behavioral health nursing. The people in my care revealed to me without saying a word that the good job with the opportunity for growth and advancement that I was looking for was with me the whole time. I was the good job that needed to be done, and I have people like your loved ones to thank for that. Early in my career as a registered nurse I decided to focus on home care because it was depressing to be surrounded by sick people who had to wait for pain medication, and help with meals, bathing, grooming, and toileting, and I couldn't help all of them. Home care affords me the time to focus on my actual employer's business at hand. That is your loved one's needs and concerns.
