I am currently a sophomore attending Harold Washington College and majoring in biology with plans to transfer to a 4 year university, to withhold a bachelor's and master's degree in Biological Science, with plans of having a doctoral degree after 4 years of medical school. Some volunteer work includes the help of shaping and curing the children of La Rabida Children Hospital for nearly 1 year. Not only did I fulfill the specific job duties, but also networking at Chicago State University PREP Program, has granted me the opportunity to become a proud member NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) Corporations and STEM Education Coalition.

Helping others has always been a goal of mine, even as a little girl I knew I would be in the medical field in some capacity. My heart is into caring for others. I take care of my mother and understand a family's challenge in care giving matters. I have experience for in-patient and out-patient patients. I am very observant. I understand signs and symptoms of most illnesses. I am unique in that I understand and have knowledge of tradition medicine, but also holistic wellness. I truly believe if we did both and all, we would be in a better health condition as a country. I have certification as a Medical Assistant/Patient Care Tech from 1986. I have been in medicine for 25 plus years. My most recent place of employment was with Northwestern Memorial Hospital. I only left for a job offer with a Chicago Union, SEIU.

A very high spirited person with great communication/ listening skills who has the passion of helping those in need. I enjoy bringing smiles to peoples faces and making someone feel safe when around me. Been told many times by many different people of how great of a personality i have and i believe that my purpose in this would is to spread spread positivity and joy around anyone that i meet. Being a care giver is not only a job but also a lifestyle because i love caring for any and everyone in need even when there is no paycheck involved. My personal achievement is how i was able to make my grandmother smile and made her feel warm and peaceful by letting her know that everything was going to be okay in her death bed the day she died.

Personal traits are I am an outgoing person I do way more than I should and needed to be because I know one day my parents would be on the same boat and I want them to be taken care of the way I do to my patients. I love my job because not only do I learn so much from my patients I get to bond and have a patient relationship with them. I started in caregiving at eight years old. It was my first job. I was to go to Mrs. Walkers's house a couple of times a week and sit with her and play scrabble or other games in the evenings until she went to bed. I was happy to do it and couldn't believe I was getting paid for it. It was only $5. That was a lot of money for an eight year old. I loved being with her because she was my neighbor, she always made us peanut butter cookies and I had known her since I was 3 years old. She began to change quickly, her health and mental state began to decline. She was experiencing dementia that would soon develop into Alzheimer's. I experienced that at a young age with her and her family. I grew up in the country so we all did our part to help. I cared for her until she passed away when I was 18 years old. I loved caring for her in all of the stages. I gave and learned about compassion and strength at a young age. Regardless of the stage of her health she often still kept her personality and humor. The strength and power of community of caregivers is very valuable. The family could have never done it alone and why should they. She was part of the community and I was so grateful to be there for her at that time in her life. I will always cherish those days. Being a caregiver is what I enjoy. I feel that I can offer quality caregiving and assistance to that person and the family at a challenging time in their life.

I am very passionate about what I do. I have always liked helping and has always helped the seniors, even when I was very young. So with the help of my mom found a training class for CNAs' and took it. I have been a CNA for 21 years. I am very compassionate when it comes to my work, I make sure that whomever I'm helping has a say so in their care and what they want. It is top priority to me to make sure they are pleased with the care I provide. Just seeing my clients or whomever I'm working with smile brings joy to my heart, and let's me know I have done something right and I have helped this person.

My name is Tonya I became a caregiver over 20 years ago because I enjoy working with people of all ages and I do understand at some point in your life u may need care for one reason or another and when I give that care I think of my my on parents,my grandfather and or myself. I experienced a bad car accident a few years ago which was a very humbling experience,loosing some of my memory and my ability to move around for a while is a very humbling experience that gave me more patience and understanding of the senior population.

I'm a patient and understanding person who gravitated to being a caregiver after my parents had gotten sick. I always felt that all people have a responsibility to the elderly and children and I have worked with both but feel that there isn't enough being done to help the elderly.
