Since I can remember my life has been centered around caregiving for individuals. I enjoy helping individuals reach a new level within their lives. With 20 years of care giving under my belt as well as being a mother to 5 children caregiving is something that comes naturally to me. I graduated with my BA in Healthcare management & is currently pursuing my MA In clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am very proud of my pursuit of my education because I learned to nurture myself more which in return helps me to become an even better caregiver to all I come in contact with.

What makes me a great caregiver is not just the skills and experience that I possess buts it's the care and compassion that I have for my residents, I enjoy helping others and I feel accomplished bringing about a smile on others faces.

Hello. My name is Toria Gilewala. I have worked within the healthcare industry for over 15 years as a CNA, Direct Support Professional, and Case Manager. I have a strong passion for helping others, and would describe myself, as an advocate for marginalized populations, ambitious, caring, versatile, and hard-working. I became attracted to caregiving after completing a CNA course and clinical rotation (at a local hospital) during my senior year of high school. This experience had a lasting impact on my life, prompting me to work and pursue college degrees within the healthcare industry. My previous work experience consists of working in home health care, hospital, nursing home, and community health center settings, where patient's individual needs varied. The most enjoyable part of being a caregiver is helping to make a difference in the life of others, from different walks of life. A personal achievement I am most proud of is being awarded Employee of the Year by the ETSU College of Nursing.

Here is a snapshot of information about me: After receiving my B.A. in Music Education, I continued with school and completed a Master of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Family Psychology. I have effective communication skills, and find that having an open, honest, and empathetic approach towards others is the best way to find out my client's needs. Additionally, I take a solution-focused approach to all situations in my personal and professional life. For many years I have worked with foster children and veterans. I was responsible for securing a stable and loving home for the children who came from abusive and neglectful situations. I also learned a great deal about childhood and adulthood trauma, and have helped many people face and overcome obstacles that hinder them due to the traumatic events in their past and current situations. I help my client's identify their physical, emotional, and mental health needs and empower them with the tools to meet those needs successfully. What a rewarding experience it is for both of us and our family's! In closing, I would like to mention that I have been fortunate to meet and work with people from a variety of backgrounds. What makes me a great caregiver? I love people and just knowing am able to give back to my elders is amazing. I was Blessed with the opportunity to care for my 95 and 96-year-old grandparents the last two years of their lives. My grandfather had severe dimensia/ Alzheimer's and I'm very experienced working with elderly suffering from this. I understand the hardships involved with finding trustworthy honest people to care for loved ones. I will care for yours the way I'd want you to care for mine. Companionship, administering medication, personal care, cooking, cleaning, outings, errands and more-- all of which will be provided with kindness, respect, dignity, and honesty.

For the past ten years, I have devoted my vocation assisting others to meet their own human needs by utilizing acquired knowledge, prevention tactics, and maintaining a commitment to improving the quality of life for all my clients. They have also received service delivery systems which included quality direct services, program accessibility/accountability, intake sessions, client-centered Treatment Plans, and coordinated delivery of services with the involvement of external stakeholders, as deemed warranted. My clientele base has included homeless women with children, teens, developmentally disabled, incarcerated males, disabled seniors, and others who experienced issues with sexual assault, domestic violence, mental health, disabilities, alcohol/drug abuse, and mental/emotional abuse - most of their lives. Implementation of other duties as case manager: Monitor, developmental skills trainer, supportive counselor, mental health test assessor, facilitator, program orientation, referrals, client advocating, coordinator, maintaining client files, consultant, and also performed "intense" case manager protocols. As a helping professional, my paramount focus is maintained by supporting clients to (a) enrich their daily lives and (b) to provide them with options on how they can create their own pathways to obtain a better quality of life for self and their entire familial unit. I have chosen to focus my attention on the senior population because children and the elderly have the greatest history of experiencing the most vulnerabilities and disparities in their lives.

I have been care giving for 2 years. I started caregiving after my 93 year old great- grandmother passed away after providing her care for 5 years. I am reliable, hardworking and easy going. I have developed a real passion and enjoy the elderly population. I have my masters degree in mental health counseling but I know clients and there loved ones need help so that's why I caregive.

I have had 30 years of caregiving experience between giving care to an elderly woman with multiple sclerosis, a client with dementia and a client who suffered from a stroke. My services include activities of daily living (ADLs), feeding, grooming, transportation and companionship.

I have always been in the field of caring! I have worked as a social worker, psychiatric technician, community facilitator. I have a great personality and brings out the best in others. In brief I am a people's persons and loves the to help others! I have more that 10 years with Parkinson, dementia, behavioral problems and disabilities. I love caring for people and making their lives better. Special needs has always been my passion but elderly with mental disabilities are just as great to work with. The biggest accomplishment i have is getting a 40yr old autistic non verbal man to talk to me. Just a few words but he would talk to me everyday I was there.

What makes me a good caregiver is the fact that I enjoy people and find most people enjoy my company as well due to the fact I'm concerned about their well being by checking on them or calling them to see how they are doing. I became a caregiver because I worked in Special Education in the Austin Public School System so I am familiar with dealing with special needs of students both mental and physical challenges that student may have been dealing with. Moreover, I have former clients whom I work for whom became like family to me, thus I have continued because I do enjoy a client with a wonderful zest for living. And I was fortunate enough to meet these types of people. The fact that you learn so much from your clients and they in turn learn from you in just making their lives worth living, and for me, it is the joy of affording someone the independence that we all want forever to maintain, even if it with some assistance. To know someone appreciates the help is the joy for me. A personal achievement for me is to have gone back to school for my Masters of Science in Education later in life. It is something that I wanted to attain and I did. I have utilized this knowledge in ways that I didn't know would come into fruition.

Work in liaison with Pierce/King /Thurston County, Seattle Housing Authority, Veterans Affairs and other Human Services Government Program. Utilization of engagement and counseling practices including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Care, and Multi-Systemic Treatment.
