Personality traits that make me a great caregiver are my empathy and patience. After working in a dementia unit for about 7 months now, I have learned how to be patient and take my time with the residents in the facility. As for empathy, that is something I have always had for people or animals in need, it gives me purpose and value to my daily life when I know I can give to others what they are unable to do for themselves. What attracted me to becoming a caregiver was initially the opportunity for a full-time job that had a higher wage. However, I have grown to love what I do and find that work does not feel like work to me when I am caring for the residents, they have become my friends with whom I hold dear to my heart. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is the chance to build relationships with the residents and learn something new about them every shift. I also love learning what makes them happy, sad, mad, and cool down. This is crucial with the memory care unit specifically because it can be difficult reading what the resident may need since they may have trouble communicating it to the caregiver. So, knowing the knicks and knacks of each resident allows for better care to be given. One personal achievement I am proud of is a breakthrough I had with a resident of mine in the memory care unit. She is bed bound and speaks little English, but she is in love with music. She will sing to you and try to dance, and she will gladly have the caregiver do both for her as well. I have found that when I play music in her room and dance a little bit for her while washing her up, she doesn't even notice when you pull shirts over her head or when you wash up her face and armpits. Those are three things she particularly hates, so being able to sing to her and hold her gaze while she is laughing and singing with you is one major breakthrough for me.

Hello! As much as I would love to be a small business owner, my true talent and gift is caring for others. Years ago I graduated from Stark State College with a degree in Medical Assisting. After years of being an Air Force Wife, and raising 3 children to adulthood I have found myself back in Ohio! My patience , and flexibility and love for organizing many trying situations for my family through the years of military life, and having one child with a severe nut allergy ,and a child with Autism-has made me the compassionate and caring person I am today! I have a love of nature and am a great listener. I am a great conversationalist too.

Hello, my name is Angela Dave. I am 20 years old almost 21. I have been doing healthcare work since I've been in high school and have been a certified STNA since a senior in high school. When I was a Jr. in high school I got pregnant and gave birth to my son 1 week before my senior year started. That's when I really buckled down and started to focus on what I need and want to do with my life because I had a whole other life to take care of. My son is now 3 and I've worked in a couple different areas of the healthcare field. In the beginning I did mostly STNA work in nursing homes, then I changed that up a bit and started doing home Health Care work. After high school I went to Mount Union for a year to persue my nursing license. When I went out to school my son wasn't even 1 yet and we were their by ourselves so it got a little difficult. After a year of that I decided it would be best for me to just work for the moment and focus on my son because trying to all three on my own was a little difficult. When I moved back home I started doing some home healthcare work and with that I really enjoyed it. I liked it better then the nursing home environment because you can better get to know your patients and build a relationship with them. I have always been a very giving person and have always had the desire to help someone else.

My name is Cameron Fishback and my first career field was golf management. I then decided to get my STNA certification in March, 2019. I have a lot of great experience with assisting elderly and clients who need day to day assistance. I have a heart of gold when it comes to helping others. I also have a great amount of experience volunteering at a memory care day care and I was highly involved there for about 4 years. hi i like being a care giving because that's just how i was raised and taught. i grew up with a mental disabled cousin and he was also physically disabled and i was his main care giver since my mom worked so much. my daily responsibility was to prepare a meal for him, also give him and bath, and also play with him and make sure he was just overall having a good day. i would have to catch the bus with him to get him to work and pick him up. i really enjoyed spending time with my cousin, a lot of people thought i was taking care of him but we were just hanging out i didn't mind helping him with things that normally People wouldn't need help with but overall he taught me a much better lesson.

I am a social worker who is dedicated to serving people in need of care and guidance to improve their lives. I've spent my career uplifting individuals who have lost their will and helping them navigate their way out of difficult situations. I shifted my focus after providing full time in home care for my father-in-law who was suffering from multiple health problems to include kidney failure/dialysis, diabetes, retinal neuropathy, congestive heart failure, pleural effusion, etc. The list was long, the appointments were daily and I dedicated 6 months to him after he was given 2 weeks to live. He was depressed, wheelchair bound and waiting to die before he moved in with us. By the time he had passed he was walking again and had regained his excitement for life. It breaks my heart to see people lose their will to live and I thrive on uplifting people any way that I can.
