Hello, my name is Cydney! I have been a caregiver for 8 yrs. My caregiving journey begin when my great Aunt's health declined and she needed more assistance. Everyday after school I would take care of my aunt and I truly valued every moment. When my aunt transitioned I decided that I wanted to help others have that companionship as well. I have decided to stay in this field bc I love nurturing and being joyful for others.

As a child, my mom worked in Alzheimer's , dementia, and other neurological disorders at UT Medical Center. I volunteered with her through high school then majored in social work in college. Provided health care for my Grandfather who was my world at age 14 this is when I knew caring for people was my gift because I loved it. I later cared for my adopted mother and father until their deaths for about seven years, my birth mother for three years, two aunts, one cousin plus going too school, managing three Ole Smokey Toppers Sports retail stores for seven years and raising a son by myself. During the first ten years of moving to Knoxville I took in thirty-two homeless young into my home at my own emotional and financial expense. Most importantly to give back to society and help mend the streets. These young adults were deemed as \\"throw away kids,\\" and some were mentally handicap, dropouts or teenage single mothers. I helped to give them a safe home environment with a second chance in life plus assisted them thru the legal system, college, health care system, and social services. I love caring for people. I have been blessed to meet and care for so many wonderful people and become lifelong friends with their families.

I grew up in a medical home with two nursing parents, and I've been babysitting for 8 years (it is a bit of an age difference, but most of my clients had special needs). I enjoy helping people and being a friend to those who may be forgotten from time to time by the rest of society as well as getting to know and learn from these people. My personal achievement that I am proud of is that I was one of the first Blue Diamonds at my current job because I took my lunch break to buy a patient clothes for when he left the hospital since his were soiled. I did not do it for recognition, but it was very cool to be one of the inaugural blue diamonds!
