I started of in the caregiving field with taking care of my grandfather. In the process I got to learn a lot and I did enjoy doing it. I treat every client like my own family with love and compassion. Every client had different needs, so I get to understand the client first and foremost. I mostly enjoy the learning process in caregiving, no matter how long one has been a caregiver, we get to learn new things every time. I once had a client who had dementia (late stage), who did not want to go to bed (it was late at night). One thing that the client enjoyed was watching animal documentaries . I showed the client pictures of different animals that I had taken when I went to Kenya and the client calmed down and I was able to redirect the client to bed. My patience with the client helped me assure the client that I was on her side. This scenario really made me proud of the caregiver that I'm becoming. I love what I do.

I have an innate ability to anticipate the needs of my client, both emotionally and physically. I am open and approachable, and am able to comfortably converse with my client based on their interests and experiences. I got my start in elderly care at the young age of 10 years old. My parents built their own beautiful assisted living center when their parents needed that extra attention. They wanted to avoid the long hallways, strong odors, and seemingly lack of care and concern for our elders you often find in nursing homes. Your loved one is not a number among dozens to be dealt with. They are family, and I'm here to aid them in the sunset years of their life with authentic respect and compassion. After a service mission abroad where I volunteered at abused women's shelters, I obtained my license as a CNA and MAT and worked in health care communities in both Idaho and here in Oklahoma where I currently reside. I took a break to have 3 beautiful daughters and am excited to re-enter the workforce and develop connections and offer aid to your elderly again.

I am a people person. I love getting to know all cultures and personalities. I am respectful to all ethnics and races. I have worked in a special needs high school classroom for the last 5 years. I love the kids I work with even when they can be difficult with mental break downs. We have a very big 18yr old young man who on occasion will have episodes anxiety and pure fear where he is so spun up it is very difficult to calm back down. I have had success on calming this young man and helping him through his anxiety so he does not harm himself or others in the classroom. I have had numerous training through the state on how to care for many situation and needs, such as downs syndrome, dementia, toileting, dressing meal preparation and I am very skilled in house cleaning. I just really enjoy helping others. It brings me joy.

I'm a caregiver with 23 + years experience predominantly caring for clients w/quadriplegia, but I also have experience with elder care and dementia. For those with cognitive impairment it's often helpful & fun to participate in activities such as simple puzzles, coloring, birdwatching, building with Legos, or going for a walk & getting some fresh air outside. One such achievement included training a service dog (Great Dane) for a quadriplegic client, which involved extensive protection work + showing (& placing) in both the obedience and confirmation ring. Another time we drove the Baja together (with a full staff) & went big game fishing in Mexico. I was born and raised in Nigeria, Africa. I moved to the United States at the age of 18 and had a fun time assimilating to this culture. I wanted more out of my life so I Enlisted in the United States Navy. I Served a total of 12 years but 5 years was Active duty and I was Discharged Honorably. In 2009 when I had my first son, I knew I needed a career change because I couldn't stand being away from family. I went to school that year and came out a Certified Nursing assistant. Hello! I am currently a Home Care Aid in the Shelton area, and I work with a variety of clients young and older. I love working with children, and I am going to school to become a chemical dependency counselor and hope to work with youth at risk. I am CPR certified, smoke free, and have my own vehicle. I became a caregiver once my dad became really ill with Lukiema and heart problems. I wanted to be able to learn and experience working with the elderly who couldn't take care of themselves and kind of prepare myself for taking care of my dad. It's hard to answer what makes me a great caregiver, I honestly just love caring for others. I love getting just a simple smile out of them or a laugh. It makes me feel really good inside knowing the work I do is beneficial and it's truly rewarding at the end of the day when I go home knowing I did good.
