Hello! My name is Joy and I have been working as a caregiver going on to 4 years. I started working at a nursing facility as a part time gig and found a strong passion with working in this field. I specialize in working with dementia/alzheimer's, those receiving hospice care, and assisted living. My love for being a caregiver has only grown throughout the years - bringing bright, fresh and joyous energy to the various people that I come in contact with. In addition to being a caregiver, I am a full time social worker with current plans of obtaining my Master's in Social Work. I have been a care giver for over 10 years. I have worked in a variety of different setting; assisted living, home care and inpatient hospital. Care giving is a special job it requires patience, kindness, compassion and understanding. This is why I am drawn to caregiving. I try hard to display these qualities in my work. Being a caregiver comes from within. I became a caregiver when I moved to Madera, Ca. My fathers side of the family had residential care facilities and I was introduced to the residents and throughout the years and with daily interaction, we formed a connection. As I got older I began caring for them by staying over night, prepared dinner, assisted and gave baths, administered medication, kept rooms clean and well organized, escorted and transported to various appointments. I enjoy being a caregiver because I've been around individuals who really need help and once you help it just lights up their day. Seeing someone smiling is the best gift. It makes me feel as if I'm doing something right. A personal achievement that I'm proud of is being able to help my own mother in times of discouragement and she telling me, "I know I can always count on you." Being a mother of 3 little girls, I live to nurture and love those girls as well as keep them safe. I don't do it because its my job, but because I want to and I do it with no effort. I believe it's the same way with a resident.

I am a experienced caregiver with 6+ years experience, I love working with the elderly and physically disabled I come from a nursing family. I grew up caring for my grandparents and other family members. I am currently enrolled in Los Angeles Southwest College and studying to become a Registered Nurse , I graduated from nursing School and am waiting to sit for my state boards exam. I am involved in my church and sing in the choir I believe this is my purpose and I have such a passion for Nursing. It is a God given gift to be able to give and make a difference in others life. I would say years of experience being a caregiver and family values that I've learned from my roots made me a great caregiver. Our values taught us to take care of our elderly until their last breath. Being a nurse has always been my dream since I was young, I always love to take care of elderly. I love being around elderly, they could tell you stories, their achievements in life and teach you lessons they learned in life. Positive feedbacks and appreciations from clients and family members are my greatest achievements in caregiving.

I owned my own business for years as well as worked for the Government for several years. I left corporate America behind to peruse my passion for medicine. When my daughter was born a month early, she had some medical issues that came up. After years of dealing with doctors and specialist constant changes in her medical treatment I started to research different treatments on my own and decided to go into the medical field. I still have a love for business, but being apart of a team that provides medical attention and compassion makes me want to do it each day.

What makes me a great caregiver is that i have a great heart for caring for others. What attracted me to being a caregiver, my grandmother always have told me to treat people the way you would want to be treated, with that being said i would want someone to treat me with repect.
