I was too young to remember the story but my aunt says when I was 4 years old, that I comforted and reassured her when she was crying over a breakup with her boyfriend. I believe this was the beginning of my journey to care for others. I majored in Social Work and have had a wonderful 27 year career of working with children, adolescents and the aging. I have worked at UVA hospital where I gained insight into the importance of maintaining good health and how devastating a disease or accident is on one's health and life. I have worked for department of social services and assisted the aging with receiving the services needed to remain in their home or to move into a facility. At this time, I am doing "hands on" care in people's home to assist them with various activities of daily living. My mother was bedridden for many years and I was one of her primary caregivers. I know the burden on family when caring for a loved one and the importance of support. My grandfather lived to be 96 and I was there for him to assist with shopping, meal prep, housekeeping, medication reminders and transportation. I cherish the times that I spent with my mother and grandfather caring for them. I also cherish the support I received from others.

Hello I'm shahidah but yall can call me shy it's easier ok the fist question is what attracted ne to this field it was taken care of my grandmother (nobody could of done it better in my eyes ).But I love to make her life easier I enjoy being a care giver to make people not feel alone and they are loved by someone the personal achievement that I'm proud of besides my children is that I donated my kidney.

I am an upbeat, happy CNA of 14 years. I have worked everywhere from in my clients homes to hospital to long term care facilities. I have experience with hoyer lifts, sit to stands and hands on transfers. I have worked with many people with dementia and Alzheimers and I have about a years experience working with the mentally disabled. I am an experienced caregiver and comfortable tending to folks with a variety of handicaps, whether they are physical or mental disabilities. Much of my experience came from providing care to an elderly hemiplegic stroke survivor (paralyzed on one side). For years, I provided meaningful conversation and companionship, timely medication administration, assistance with personal hygiene (bathing, toileting, etc.), physical therapy, reading, memory recall practice, housekeeping, and taking consistent, detailed notes of her activities, progress, and state of mental and physical wellbeing. As a step-parent of three, I never really left the field of domestic work. I am also an NHA Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, which means I have been trained in patient care, taking vital signs, as well as administering first aid, CPR, and medications. Although I am not opposed to strictly medical work environments, I feel it is time for me to continue caring for new clients in a home setting. My favorite part about being a caregiver is companionship centered around human needs. I miss my former primary client, who passed away a few years ago. Even on days when we were going nowhere, I still helped her get dressed, curled and teased her hair, and helped with makeup. She always had a preferred way of doing things, so I served as her natural extension and carried out tasks in the way she would have done them herself. I am fully. vaccinated and boosted for Covid-19. I do test regularly as an additional precaution. Everyone in my household (including all three children) are also fully vaccinated.

Warm hearted person, love being around and helping clients and families. Taking care of my grandmother when she became ill made me to take care of other's. The interaction with different people the smiles that come with helping them knowing that if I can help someone with a simple meal makes my day. Raising 3 daughter's of my own and now raising my 4th daughter for the last 12 years taking care of my grandmother, grandfather, my dad while living with me and my aunt while living with me gave me such pleasure to be able to be there for them when they needed me most always have had that passion to take care of anyone that needs me.

My personality traits that help me be a great caregiver is my kindness good heart and helpful ways I'm always a easy going caregiver to get along with and I also have fun with my patients. What attracted me to be a caregiver was my my heart. Ever since I was little I always enjoyed helping people because when it was all said and done I felt good about my choices and that I did good deeds. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is that I get to make the clients happy and make them feel like their young again. My personal achievement that I'm proud of is is actually becoming a caregiver because I was always told that I would never be nothing and that I don't have what it takes and I proved them wrong because I went out and did it and completed what I set my mind to.
