I have been a caregiver 40 years. Always had a good repore with elderly growing up. Being there to help a loved one played a major roll in my job. I've worked in Assisted living facilities, Nursing homes and absolutely love it. I've used machinery like hoyer lifts, and other things. I'd prefer to stay away from that and heavy lifting. I also had my own assisted living years ago in upstate Ny.. I'm very experienced and I make it my buisness to be punctual and dependable. I take pride in my skills and I do my very best at all times. I love my job as a caregiver because when I was little I spent most of my life with my grandmothers from my both parents. I lLoved them and they Loved me so much that it created a special bond in my heart with the elderly and the need to help them manage their daily life more Comfortable. Greetings! My name is Dana, and I reside in Louisa County, near Lake Anna. All of my previous positions have been either in customer service or helping others. In regards to caregiving, I have experience working with folks in a home setting where I have done things such as; help with toiletry, grooming, meal preparation, helping with mobility (getting in and out of bed), companionship ( I play a mean hand of Rummy), and some exercise (taking walks). I have previous work experience as a CPHT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) and I'm trained in medication management, I would have no problem with medication management. I also have work experience with neurological disorders, developmental disorders, mental illness, and ADLs- from early childhood and up.

I think of myself as a kind-hearted and empathetic person. I always offer words of encouragement and comfort to my residents. I want a career that puts a smile on peoples face when I help them do even the littlest of things like helping with their daily routine or even having a conversation or giving them compliments . For me being a caregiver over the years has helped me improve in being able to address and resolve issues quickly and effectively to ensure my residents health and safety is not compromised.

I majored in Social Work and have had a wonderful 27 year career of working with children, adolescents and the aging. I have worked at UVA hospital where I gained insight into the importance of maintaining good health and how devastating a disease or accident is on one's health and life. I have worked for department of social services and assisted the aging with receiving the services needed to remain in their home or to move into a facility. At this time, I am doing "hands on" care in people's home to assist them with various activities of daily living. My mother was bedridden for many years and I was one of her primary caregivers. I know the burden on family when caring for a loved one and the importance of support. My grandfather lived to be 96 and I was there for him to assist with shopping, meal prep, housekeeping, medication reminders and transportation. I cherish the times that I spent with my mother and grandfather caring for them. I also cherish the support I received from others.

I enjoy being a caregiver it is so rewarding and I get to spend time with my clients,I have been in Healthcare for almost 3years now. Being a caregiver has always been what I want to do since I could talk.
