I became a caregiver in August 2009 for my father, Brian. After a series of tests my father was diagnosed with early - stage of cancer. I have always taken care of my father because my mother was never around to provide support to the family. His condition is still in the early stages, but I am worried about the future. This situation brought my father and I closer. His condition has made me realize that this is career move that I wanted to peruse. I am not a caregiver by career but by choice. I have been a caregiver since I was 18. I took care of my father who had esophageal cancer. I handled a gtube, medications, attachments for feedings, drs appts everything. From that time on i knew I could make a difference for those who need that help and companionship. I have worked for a company for a short time but I didnt like how they didn't follow through so I'd rather work for a family who can appreciate the care and love I can give to their loved ones.
