I became a caregiver in August 2009 for my father, Brian. After a series of tests my father was diagnosed with early - stage of cancer. I have always taken care of my father because my mother was never around to provide support to the family. His condition is still in the early stages, but I am worried about the future. This situation brought my father and I closer. His condition has made me realize that this is career move that I wanted to peruse. I am not a caregiver by career but by choice. I am a caregiver that truly cares about helping others and want to make a difference in the lives of seniors and their families. I am caring, punctual, respectful, outgoing, honest, patient, professional and organized.

I am a health care aid with 12 year experience as a caregiver. I have worked with dementia patients as well as patients with other mental and physical disabilities. Very caring and compassionate with others. I am understanding of patient's needs and willing to do whatever it takes to make them as comfortable as possible. I believe what makes me a great caregiver is that I take care of all my patients as if they were my own family and make sure they are comfortable and most importantly I listen to their needs. I first became interested in health care when my mother was ill and needed care herself and realized that I had a real passion for helping others. I enjoy knowing that the family can be at ease knowing I'm there taking care of their loved ones. At Long Beach Memorial I was know as the "sitter whisper" because whenever they had a difficult patient they would alway assign me that patient and by the end of the day the patient would no longer require restraints or was completely compliant and friendly. They always ask what was my secret and I would say I simply listen to what their needs are.
