Encourage patient to exercise. Review & ask dietary restrictions, preferences, & allergies. Change bed linens, replace trash bags. Always check expiration of food & medicines. Know vital information about patient's condition, treatment plan & any suggested activity.. In a capsule, it is very important to respond immediately to patient's call for assistance and/or treatment with the goal of creating a safe, effective environment to make a difference in the lives of the patient & their families. As an EMT, I learned the importance of taking care of those in need during critical moments. Often times, the greatest satisfaction came from simply keeping a mother,father, child or grandparent safe and stable long enough for the family to be there with them and hold their hand. The relief I would see on the family's face, knowing that their loved one was being taken care of pays off in ways material things never could. I got into care-taking initially to make some extra income in a way that came naturally to me. Although I was no stranger to the medical field, I wasn't sure what to expect. Now, some time later, I can say that there is a satisfaction in knowing that I am playing a small role in a family's journey to best provide for their loved one. Being called a friend of a nearly 90 year old man who I've know a fraction of that time is something I will most likely always hold dear. Listening to stories of a childhood in a different era, a marriage that spanned over six decades, and the ups and downs of a life lived are all things not easily obtained. As someone who can't stand the sight of others in pain or misery, I look forward to providing compassion with dignity and care with expertise for your loved one.

That make me be a great caregiver is by showing empathy and compassion, I will let the clients know I care about them and I do as much as they need me. Being a caregiver for 11 years give me joy in my heart when patients improved their recovery from sickness or surgery, also when they are so grateful from my help. Welcome to my page! Growing up, my parents would call me their "little doctor" when they were cut or were feeling sick because I would try to help in any way that I could. I finally pursued caregiving as a career after high school when I found a nursing assistant's program. I have volunteered at a nursing facility for about 2 months and I officially worked at another nursing facility for an additional 2 months. I enjoy my responsibilities as a caregiver but one of the most rewarding parts is being able to give company to whom I am taking care of. In the previous nursing facility I worked at, I learned that I personally would rather take care of one or two people at a time because I am able to provide the care that each person would realistically need. My boss pulled me aside three times to let me know that one of my patients from the day before had told him directly that I was doing a great job and that they really liked me. I have had multiple patients who were labeled as "difficult" say that I was their favorite caregiver out of everybody who has taken care of them. I have been requested by a family to specifically be the only person on my shifts to take care of their loved one. Approval from my patients and their family is the greatest reward that I could ever receive because it encourages me to continue doing the little things that make each patient feel like they are in good hands. A skill that I believe that every caregiver should have before having the responsibility of taking care of another person is a good heart with good intentions. Although I did not have the same years of experience as my coworkers, I was still acknowledged by my nurses and managers because of the extra step I would take to ensure that my patients were well taken care of.
