I have been a caregiver professionally for a little over a year. However, prior to working professionally, I cared for my nana. I love learning about people's life stories and promoting as much independence as possible. It is an honor to be trusted by individuals at their most vulnerable times.

I genuinely love feeling like I am making a difference in someone's life. I decided to be a caregiver since my heart is big and it feels natural to take care of someone. My biggest achievement yet is finishing my military contract since it was the hardest thing that I was able to overcome which has made me very proud

Hired Anne
Anne helped care for my mother who has dementia. Unlike most "sitters", Anne took the time to work on games, puzzles, go over magazines with her, as well as move her into common areas which were calmer and more social than the memory care areas. She has been very caring and considerate of our needs as well as my mother's. Anne has only been available to us part-time but we would have hired her for full time in a heart-beat had she been available. She is excellent!
What makes me a great caregiver is that I'm truly an advocate for the safety and well-being of the patient. I'm my eyes, there's no wrong door. I do all I can to make sure my patient is very well taken care of and has what they need. I love helping others; especially those that are unable to help themselves.

My background and how I became who I am today. I was a preschool teacher for 14 years with the same school. St Peters Episcopal Day School. Which I loved doing, In the month of October 2016 my dad who is retired Navy 22 yrs and retired NewportNews shipbuilding 27 yrs was diagnosed with advanced progressed ALS Lou Gherings disease. After being diagnosed he went bed-bound in two months. My mom had to retire also. I quit my job and I took such good care of my dad. I have references of the doctors and nurses that came to our home and asked if I was a nurse. I keped everything organized and neat and clean I educated my self and learned so much.
My dad was a complicated patient. As the ALS progressed so fast he required a non invasive ventilator to help him breath, he had a peg tube "G"tube for food and water because he could not swallow safely , a chronic Foley catheter also a nephrostomy tube coming to drain urine from his kidney. I am very proud for the work that I did for caring for my dad. I also have lots of wound care experience. I enjoyed taking care of my dad, that when he did pass away Sept 2 2018 that I got my certification to care for the elderly and critically ill paitents. I flew through school because I had already taken care of the worst for two years. I enjoy caring for him so much that he has enlightened me on a whole new career path.

A great caregiver is someone who is kind, compassionate, and loving by nature. A generous, sensitive spirit can't be taught only given by the Creator Himself. Caregiving found me. The elderly, children, and animals bring joy to my heart. If I can bring a little peace and comfort into the life of another person I feel I've done what the Master called me to do.
My career as a caregiver began by working in a nursing home facility over a year ago. I worked with respiratory patients, wound care patients, dementia patients, HIV patients, hospice patients, Alzheimer patients, and handicapped patients who had all of their faculties but because of missing limbs were unable to stay at home. I learned to give very basic to advanced care. While the level of care changed the one thing that remained constant was the need for a kind word.
I was often asked to go into a room and communicate with a difficult patient because there was something about my calm voice and gentle nature that turned every tide into smooth sailing.
I left the facility because it was heartbreaking. It should have been a place where every worker enjoyed working there. Instead finding someone who enjoyed their work was a rarity. I believe private duty will be much more fulfilling.
I love providing home caregiving services to those that would otherwise not be able to do so. The smile on their faces is overwhelming and makes me feel I have done my job right. I have always enjoyed helping people so I know I am doing the right thing.
Meeting new people and providing caregiving services that they can no longer do for themselves.
I enjoy the opportunity to impact clients’ lives and make a difference to them. I appreciate the chance to get to know clients and their families and become an integral part of their lives.
I always give 100% and do the best job I can, with no exceptions or excuses. I also try to bring a sense of humor to my work. If I can add a smile or laugh to a client’s day, that means a lot to me. It is important to laugh.
I am proud that I am following the footsteps of my grandmother who was a former caregiver as well.
