I feel like I am a good caregiver because when my dad turned 80 he needed extra help because he started forgetting some stuff. Started to get Alzheimer's. So I began helping him with medication, cooking, cleaning, laundry, errands, doctor appointments, bill paying etc. Sometimes I would find myself at his home 4-5 times a day answering questions over and over again or just to keep him company. He had some amazing stories of his life so I overstayed my visits. It was great! He passed away at 90. Then my sister started having medical problems when she turned 65. I did the same for her and would spend a lot of time with her as well. I cleaned her home, did her laundry and took her to doctor appointments. I kept her company at the hospital as often as I could. We spent a lot of time on the phone. It helped so she wasn't so bored. I enjoyed the time I spent with both of them. It made me feel useful. So after all the help I gave to both of them, I started to look into Caregiving. It's a great career. To help others is great!

I have been doing in home care, facility care. For about 15 yrs. I can connect well with others. Compassionate about my clients needs and wants. Building trust and friendship is important to me. Hello, I am a 37 year old mother of a boy and a girl who loves to have a connection and friendly relationship with not only my family and friends but my clients as well in order for them to be comfortable in receiving the best care possible that I can give. Being a mom, I work best with being in an environment that is clean and organized but not only that, I can easily multi task and handle situations that may be unexpected at times which can often be the case with caregiving. I feel that since I was raised with a close family, and my grandparents help watch and raise me taught me to appreciate how much our elders do for us while they are capable of it. If they are no longer able to take care of themselves without assistance , I feel that is what we as caregivers are here to do. I hope that one day if and when I ever need the favor returned that I will have the genuine caregiver that I strive to be. My name is Melissa. I have been working with Elderly and Disabled people since age 9. I started by Volunteering at a Nursing home ,and then I volunteered to work with disabled people of all ages. I knew from a small age that I wanted to care for people of all types. I have always had a special passion for The Elderly.
