Hello! I'm Elizabeth and I have a soft spot for taking care of people, whether it's young children or the elderly who aren't able to take care of themselves 100% anymore. I started taking care of my grandparents, mostly my grandmother, at the time when I was about 12 years old all the way up until she passed away when I was 18. Being able to help her in ways she wasn't able to made me feel like I was giving back to her, and my whole family. I loved cooking and baking things for her and keeping her company. I would also run errands for her, go shopping for groceries and other things of that sort. She became my best friend. I put 100% into everything I did for her. And now I take care of my grandpa when he needs me too, I do his taxes for him and run errands with him. A couple of years after she had passed I went and was a dietary cook/aide at a retirement home, I wanted to keep giving back and helping the elderly as much as I could. If something was on the menu and I knew some of the residents didn't particularly like what was going to be served I would go to each room and ask if they would prefer something different for the meal. I wanted everyone to feel like they mattered to me. One of the things that really makes me feel good about being a caregiver is when I can tell I make their day better. Seeing them happy made my heart smile. I'm most proud of myself for how far I have came in life. I didn't have many real friends growing up, I was always way to nice to everyone and I was always taken advantage of by my peers. I have learned that not everyone is perfect and that's okay.

My journey into Home Health, Hospice and Caregiving started unexpectedly and quite personally. My then 16-year old daughter was diagnosed with a very rare malignant brain tumor. Fast forward 21 years. Although I enjoyed a very successful career as an IT Consultant, it was not emotionally satisfying. I am a caregiver at heart. I have cared for a young woman, now a young adult since her diagnosis with muscular dystrophy as a child. This is on an as-needed basis and she now enjoys independence in her own home. Working with my elderly families has been extremely rewarding. And caring for someone in their final season of life is something God put me on this earth to do. I raise an amazing teen granddaughter and she keeps me young at heart. Her love for pets keeps me on my toes with her two dogs, one cat and Waldo - her turtle. I am enrolling in the WINGS program and will receive my Certified Nursing Assistant(CNA)/Home Health Aide Certification in fall of 2020. This will be immediately followed by their Medication Management Certification program. Although I have performed in these roles and more for two decades, I have only recently decided to accomplish these Certifications. *Note, Any overnight, weekend or holiday shifts will be on an exception basis only*

What attracted me to being a caregiver is from August of 2003 to May of 2004 I took a CNA Class and worked a few short months at the Arbor House in Mustang before getting married for the first time. I moved out of state and did not continue to follow a dream I had of becoming an RN so I have decided to do caregiving and work my way to an RN. I wanted to help those in need and felt that was what attracted me to doing caregiving. What I enjoy most about caregiving is helping those that need it most and for families to be able to not stress or worry about loved ones knowing they have someone like me that can keep their loved ones taken care of and keep them company and just someone to sit with them and listen to stories and many other things. A personal achievement for me is owning my very first brand new car 2021 Kia Rio. I feel another achievement for me is all the training I have taken the time to do on MyCNA Jobs and plan to do more.
