I enjoy working with disabled children and the elderly. I took care of my grandmother when she was on hospice in 2011. I moved to Dallas to live with her and attended to her every need. I was raised solely by my grandparents; we developed a unique relationship based on mutual care that would strongly influence my career path. Through their conditions, I have learned to care for patients who deal with high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, strokes, vision impairments, and mobility deficiencies. I spent many of my late teenage years volunteering at my church in the elderly programs, planning outings to keep the elders active and to nurture their relationships with the rest of the congregation. I was attracted to this position like this for the reason that personally, I have lived with 2 family members that have a disability. My younger brother and my mother. My brother is autistic and my mother has arthritis. Both have needed much care from my family, specifically me since I live with them. I know how it feels to need someone to care for a family member, so no matter what your family member may need help with I am willing to learn I to help them and be a campaign to them. The one thing I enjoy about being a caregiver is that I am able to make someone's day much more fun and lighter. A personal achievement I am proud of is attending a University while being a first-generation student.

My experience in caring for elders comes from leading the elder group at my church by planning activities and outings with a group of about 30 adults. I have also spent half my life caring for my grandparents as they have dealt with Diabetes, Stroke, high blood pressure, sight deficiencies, mobility impediments and the like. 1. I am currently in nursing school to obtain my BSN and become an RN. This past summer, I had an internship in Phoenix and I ended up living with an elderly couple in a retirement community. The wife had dementia and required total care and I ended up taking on a lot of that role. While I had no idea what I was getting into at the time, I ended up having a wonderful experience and learned a lot about how to love people in very unique circumstances. 2. I like being able to help people with things they aren't able to do themselves. None of us is capable of living without the help of others and I learn valuable lessons through each interaction with people. 3. I applied for and was accepted to do an internship at Mayo Clinic Phoenix this past summer which I just completed. I was one of only three students to be accepted who were from outside of Arizona and had no connection whatsoever to Mayo Clinic or its employees. I moved by myself to a new city and learned a lot about myself and the world in the process! 4. I am in my fifth and final year of nursing school at Biola University and my passion in life is to care for people holistically: physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually!

Hi Families! I chose to become a caregiver because I cared for my mother through her Alzheimer's. As I went through this process, it became clear to me and others in my life that this was a calling for me. I love looking after people, caring for their needs, making them laugh, and helping them find joy in the daily things they do. Sometimes they simply need another person there, so they are not alone. Other times, they need stimulating conversation and activities to keep them active and engaged. My job is to find out what they need and do my best to provide it. I am a mother of 7 children. I homeschooled most of them through high school. I love to be active, hiking, dancing, puttering around my house and driving through beautiful Colorado. I am writing a book, and hope to publish soon.
