Hello my name is Sailimanuia Tafu and i'm Samoan. I'm also known as Birdie. I learned all about caregiving when i cared for my parents. To see them struggle daily not being able to stay independent, helped me to pursue a career in nursing. I became a certified nurse assistant 8 years ago at a nursing home and I loved it. Being a caregiver helped me to reach out and give as much support not only for elderly people but for those who are sick and lonely. I think that what make me a great caregiver is because I care for others, first and foremost, in addition of being trustworthy, respectful, and hard worker. I’m also mature, clean, and follow instructions well. I worked in private homes for over 10 years, taking care of patients suffering from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, and dementia, among others; also, a special needs boy, who has been suffering from cerebral palsy. The duties I performed while working with these patients were (but not limited to): transferring, grooming, cooking, cleaning, giving medications, taking vital signs, encouraging exercises, reading, and talking. It satisfies me when I feel that the patient I’m caring for are comfortable when I’m around and when they respond positively to activities. I've been living in Las Vegas for around 4 years after living in the San Francisco bay area for 9 years, but I'm originally from Brazil. While in California I worked as housecleaning, babysit/nanny, and caregiver, where I worked in private homes. I moved to Las Vegas because I was accepted into a nursing school; unfortunately I was not able to complete the course (fell free to ask more about it during interview).
