I am compassionate, upbeat, trustworthy and can adjust on a dime. I am also a good friend. I have been a caretaker for someone with bipolar disorder, Louis-body dementia and another that was paralyzed by a stroke. As a caretaker I had to shower them and dress them as well as prepare meals and assist feeding them as well as get them out for walk or a drive to enjoy life a little. That is important if they are able. I can't help but be moved to compassion because I can't imagine losing my independence. I studied occupational therapy in college and had to volunteer, So I chose to work with the elderly. It was so rewarding to see them smile. Ever since then I have had caregiving jobs off and on. What I enjoy most about caregiving is knowing they are well cared for. I have built a bonds with those I've cared for. I am proud of my boys. They are my best achievement and continue to blow me away with the people they are becoming.

I worked for a year with Columbine Health and then left to pursue it as a private business which I have done now for a little over two years. I have experience with Parkinsons and Dementia. Comfortable helping with bathing, some ambulation, dressing, cooking, and cleaning. I am also fine with transportation and errand running. I fell in love with assisting the elderly first day on the job. I have learned a lot and made some forever friends.

I am certified in CPR and other medical emergency situations for my law enforcement experience and I have some personal experience in caregiving from my grandfather who suffered from dementia and other medical conditions. I moved to Durango in the summer of 2021 and I'm looking for a long-term job it is rewarding that I believe I will find in caregiving. The reason I got into caregiving was mostly because of my mother (who had a stroke and I was compelled to take care of her in hopes of she would regain feeling in her left side). She never did, but I learned so much from her and from all her therapists. I will always cherish the 6 months that I was able to help her. I could not talk her into moving to Tucson with me (she lives in Montana) because she has lived there for more than 50 years. She encouraged me to get my CNA degree (from PCC). I have almost 2 years of experience working as a caregiver both in facilities and in home health. After nursing school, I plan on entering the field of geriatric nursing- working as a caregiver has shown me that I have a passion for working with older adults. I am especially good at working with those who have dementia, as I have the most experience with this.
