I have been in the healthcare field for over 20years I have a diverse background from pediatrics geriatrics mental health developmental disabilities to working in family medicine and cardiology as a medical assistant/certified nursing assistant I'm currently working as a Therapy And Wellness Assistant where I run a nursing restorative program.

I started volunteering at age thirteen at nursing homes, that's when I knew taking care of others that couldn't help themselves was my calling. I have worked in many different areas of healthcare, nursing homes, hospitals, group homes for the disabled, aide at a boarding home for persons with mental disabilities, I also worked for Home Care Advantage as an HHA, going from house to house, cooking, cleaning, bathing etc.I'm not just attracted to this kind of work, I love it!! Helping others, help themselves is the best job you can have in my opinion. I love all aspects of being a caretaker, there is not just one thing I can say. I can and will do whatever needs to be done to make sure my people are as comfortable and happy as they can be. I wouldnt say I'm proud of anything I do, I love it and someone has to do it. I understand that it's not for everyone, but for me it's a blessing to be of any help to those that need it. I'm not sure if I answered the questions correctly, but I did answer honestly. Recently I let my certificates expire due to personal reasons, but I had my HHA, CPR, First side, sitter and companion licenses. All I have to do is take a refresher for all, because I have done it for so long, it's almost second nature to me.

I made sure she took her morning and night meds, showered, fed, transferred to toilet, took on walks, and did light housekeeping, and cooking. I enjoyed working with her and expanding my knowledge. I also have experience with a male patient that had MS. My duties were given medication, gtube feedings, transfers(Hoyer lift), wound care, light housekeeping, and companionship. I became a medical assistant to help people. In working in a physician office I had the experience of working with all ages. In this day I have seen more elderly people trying to live at home who need some help with care in order to stay at home. Some of the elder are trying to stay together as long as possible but due to age can not give the care that is need for the other person. With insurance not wanting to cover for a long stay at a hospital for patient, more are sent home to recover and are in need of extra help in order to recover. This can put a strain on the family life of having to take care of an ill member and with help can help in the recover of the love one and aid in making family life more normal. With help of a care giver it can relieve the burden which is placed on a family member when a love one is ill or in need of care. With my life experience I have work with many different types of people, old to young, some better off than others, and all types of races. We all have family and loves ones that at time need help whether it is from a family member or some one else we all can use a helping hand.

Hourly wage is negotiable I decided to become a caregiver because of my grandmother. As far back as I can remember she was a home health aide, I enjoyed watching her interact with her patients and making them feel comfortable. After watching my grandmother interact with her patients, i decided to try out the caregiver/assisted living/geriatric world in 2005, where i fell in love with the industry. I have been a caregiver for geriatrics and mental health for up to 10 years and have always enjoyed it. I have worked with patients that have all stages of Alzheimer's and dementia, including sun-downers, also patients with MS and ALS. With all patients, i like to get to know the family and help them understand and cope with Alzheimer's disease as well as MS and ALS and other diagnoses, which all can be very hard for some families to cope and understand. Not only do i care and look after the patient and their needs, but i also look after and care for the families. Because although, they are not being cared for by the aides, they too still need help at times. I am always there for the families for a shoulder to cry, a venting board, or just when they need help out or around the house. I do not only do my specific job duties, i do things that are not asked of me, i treat your home like i do mine. When i see that something needs to be done, i take it upon myself to complete that task. For example, dishes in the sink, dusting, trash overflowing, or helping a family member with something. I have assisted with assembling an entertainment center before, just to be a helping hand.
