I am a healthcare professional with 25+ years experience working in geriatric, memory care, dementia and Alzheimer's patients. I work in hospice care, palliative medicine, end of life care. I am a patient, compassionate, good listener, kind, caring caregiver. I do skilled nursing, wound care, first aid, post surgery care for transitioning patients to homecare. My start in healthcare was volunteering at the Red Cross, church and community outreach , I have worked eight years at the Washtenaw County DHS with CLS/CMH organizations as consumer advocate . I have worked long years managing assisted living facilities, nursing homes, directing memory care units, training, teaching and mentoring. I have earned Bachelor's of Science from EMU and Surgical Technology program from WCC. I am passionate about helping people to better their lives and improve their health.

I became a caregiver this year to care for my great aunt who have been in a horrible car accident and became immobile. I became a caregiver because my son was very ill as a child. I was working full time, and was not always able to get him the care he needed. I eventually resigned my position, so that I could find a job with a more flexible schedule. I had always been interested in becoming a caregiver, I thought this would be great start to a career in Nursing. I have experience in nearly every facet of healthcare. I have volunteered as well as been employed in hospitals, direct care centers, home health care agencies, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing centers. I am currently in my sophomore year at Oakland Community College majoring in Nursing. I enjoy being in the healthcare field, as there is so much to learn. I am looking to change the way care is provider to older adults. I have 14 years experience as a nurses aide and 10 years as a Recreational Therapist. I am developing training modules to educate caregivers to engage clients in daily routines and researched based cognitive exercise to enhance memory abilities.

At this current point in my life I am a student at Washtenaw Community College studying Communications. I have dreams of speaking on behalf of people who feel as though they have no voice. SENIOR CARE: I have cared for older adults who are no longer capable of living alone and have limited family support and no resources to purchase an appropriate living situation. Additionally, I have assisted elderly residents with activities of daily living including meals, personal care, household cleaning as well as addressing the physical, and emotional needs of the residents. It is vital to uphold the value and dignity of the gift of long life bestowed upon senior citizens. Moreover, I also cared for an elderly following knee replacement surgery. CHILD CARE: I have cared for children of close friends, relatives, and siblings aged one month to 10 years. Between January to May 2014, I worked at Eastern Michigan University Children's Institute as a teaching assistant, while guiding and assisting children aged 18 months to 5 years.
