I am 40 years old. I was an LPN for 19 years. I have been a personal caregiver for the past 3 years. In my nursing career I have worked in nursing homes and in a critical care hospital. I enjoyed both very much but my heart is in geriatric care. I have specialized in caring for dementia patients for the majority of my career. I love taking care of people and take great pride in my work. I have learned a lot while working in the healthcare field but my favorite thing about this work is that you continue to learn new things every day. Each person I care for is different and original in the things they like and dislike and getting to know them is key to being the best caregiver I can be. No matter what I learned in school the best education I could ever get comes from getting to know each one individually and having the opportunity to work with them.

I became a care giver when I moved to NC to take care of my Great Aunt at the age of 22. After going to CNA school and working in hospitals and nursing homes I didn't like that I was not able to spend more time with each patient. That's when I started home care. I have been doing home care for 25+ years. This is my calling.

I became a caregiver because I experienced my grandmother being sick with stage four cancer.
