I am a retired Geriatric and Hospice Nurse with over 25 years of providing loving care to the elderly. I am compassionate, dedicated and devoted to those entrusted to my care. I am seeking a position in private duty nursing for an elderly person who is in need of companionship, transportation, medication management, socialization with mental stimulation activities with personal care or nursing care needs. I am Certificated in Spiritual Direction. I love elderly people, reading, laughing, music, and great conversation while honoring their dignity and meaning in life as they age in place. Your family member will be in good professional care when we are together. My hours are flexible and an occasional overnight is available.

What makes me a great caregiver? I have a calm and compassionate demeanor and enjoy listening to the stories my clients tell me about their life. I was attracted to caregiving when my mother became unable to take care of herself after a fall in 2011. It was my opportunity to give back and it taught me patience, understanding, and the need to anticipate their needs without being asked. I enjoy the feedback I get from those I care for. They let me know how much they appreciate what I do. I personally feel a sense of accomplishment with my clients when I realize I have earned their trust. They tend to ask for me on subsequent occasions.

Actually, I am a Registered Nurse. Characteristics: dependable, honest, independent, optimistic, hard-working, encouraging, a problem solver, a good listener and communicator. I became interested in health care when I was 10 years old and in the hospital over Christmas having had an emergency appendectomy. My mom worked for a doctor (earning $1 an hour) and was always telling us about interesting cases and teaching us strange sounding medical terminology. Most of my nursing career was in a Medical Intensive Care Unit at Ohio State University Medical Center. After that exciting career, I started working in Home Health in 2008. I enjoy working 1 on 1 with my clients, offering encouragement, seeing that they are receiving proper care, and hearing their life stories.

Working for 10 years for a small town pharmacy, I have gained invaluable experience in providing my elderly customers with a positive, upbeat and friendly attitude, am always focused on taking care of my clients needs, with a good balance of understanding, respect, and mindful dignity concerning the personalized and empathetic services that older patients require. At a very young age a love for helping others came very naturally to me. Be it animals (of every kind), my family and friends...caring and helping has always been my first love. I enjoy cooking, cleaning, organizing. Love music, dance, swimming, gardening... being outdoors, reading and working with children and animals. I became a caregiver as a young child. Helping my cousin, Brian, who had Downs Syndrome, overcome fears and succeed made me deeply happy. I worked my way through college as a live-in caregiver, and relived the joy I had as a young girl helping Brian love life. If I had to give one reason that sets me apart as a caregiver, it is this -- love making others feel safe, content, happy, and challenged. By that, I mean motivated to overcome problems and feel hopeful once again. Overall, I have been caregiving for 15+ years (except for the 20 years I taught school), and I give God the credit for placing the love and compassion in my heart for those who are suffering. When I help others, then I am happy.

I have always had a helping spirit, even as a child. I have learned the most about myself and I feel I have developed the most patience as a mother by caring for others. I treat people how I would want my loved ones to be treated, with respect, patience, honesty and a smile: and in return, I treat my loved ones better because I'd be ashamed to treat a stranger better than my family. It's a beautiful cycle, and although it can be emotionally draining at times, the joy I feel by helping someone achieve there personal best in a given moment fills me to the core! I'm a very caring, honest person who has over 14 yrs experience in Nursing. I specialize in Geriatrics with an emphasis on Dementia & Alzheimer's.
