1. Honestly, I became a caregiver not realizing the extent of care that was needed in the field. I observed my mother providing care for my father before he passed, and it was hard for me to see him passing away. Since I have become a caregiver, I understand the quality of care that is needed in order to help rehabilitate those who are dependent upon someone they can trust. 2. In this field,I have learned a lot about myself as a person. I never expected to become educated on the subject of self. I have learned that you should not take life for granted, disabled does not mean that a person is not human and that they want to be treated special because of their disability, how the small things in life mean so much to a person when they are unable to provide for themselves such as: a warm hello, brushing their hair, putting fresh flowers in a vase on the dresser or kitchen table. 3. A personal achievement that makes me proud is that, over the years, I can greet most family members that I have provided care for, and they smile and welcome me with memories of how I touched their lives as a caregiver for their loved ones, or those that I have provided care for to rehabilitate them during their short recovery. 4. What is calming to the mind as a caregiver is, going home that day knowing that you have made a difference in someone else's life. I became a caregiver because I love to serve and help others. I enjoy spending time with the elderly and hearing the stories of their lives and the wisdom they have gained. As a single mother I understand persistence and I strive to do the best I can for my child as well as others I care for. The more I am able to help others, the more joy I receive. I enjoy talking to the elderly. They have so much wisdom. I love caring for them. I am a patient, kind and loving person. I want to be a caregiver to care for the elderly because I think it would be a good experience. I am proud that I have learned American Sign Language so that I can use it to communicate with others.

I have been a Caregiver off and on for 10 years. It has always been a passion caring for the elderly, they depend on us when there is not always family there. Since losing my father to cancer this year, it brings me even closer to those who need me most. A personal achievement would have to be the humanitarian contract I was able to work with the Afghan refugees this year.

I think being a great caregiver is to realize that someone's life is in your hands and we must do what it takes to help their quality of life. My grandfather had dementia and alzheimers and needed a night caregiver. So i took care of him for three years with my aunt and we were with him till his death in 2019. I love being apart of helping someone have the help they need. Im proud that I gave my grandpa new memories and helped him at a time when dementia had robbed him of his livelihood.

I have been a caregiver for 3 plus years and what I enjoy the most about being a caregiver is the difference I make in the daily lives of my clients. For me, it’s never being about the gratitude I get from my clients but the satisfaction I feel knowing fully well at the end of my shift, my client is doing and feeling a lot better than the time I first saw him/her. I have been privileged to have worked with some wonderful clients, who regardless of their ailments are very cheerful. They are the once that bring out the best in me as a caregiver. This is due to the fact that whenever I commit myself to a task to care for a client, I ensure that, first and foremost, I am punctual. I am very dedicated and finally I am a good communicator.
