My name is Rachel Shelton! I attend Bethel in Frayser TN. I am a mother of 4 children. I have been a caregiver since 2004! I have a love for my elderly people because if it wasn't for them where would we be!

I am a hard worker who will on task and keep myself motivated. I am able to talk to people and ask the important questions that others made have forgotten. I have been a caregiver most of my life and with a mother with lupus and a son with ADHD I felt it was the perfect next step in my career. I wanted to be a nurse when I was younger when my grandma was diagnosed with cancer when I started helping my grandma with everything and enjoyed helping someone else that couldn't help tjemselve. I am happy and energetic and live taking care of elders and children that can't do things themselve.

This year, I will be graduating from the University at Buffalo in WNY and I am planning on moving to the Washington, DC area after graduation in May. For the past two years, I have been a home care aide to a wheelchair-bound patient with cerebral palsy. I also have experience caring for my elderly grandmother who suffered from Stage 4 acute myeloid leukemia in 2016. I have also studied exercise science and biology for the past four years, giving me great knowledge of human mobility, anatomy, physiology, and nutrition. As of now, I am working as a student intern at New York Presbyterian Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic helping patients who endured a cardiac event or have heart disease to adopt a healthy lifestyle and implement exercise and nutrition regimens into their daily life. I plan on going into medicine in the future, but for right now I want to pursue my passion of helping people through a job as a caregiver. I care for any person as if they are my own family, whether it be in the rehab clinic, as an aide, or anybody who needs my help and companionship. For 2yrs I took care of my grandparents before they passed. My grandpa had hard time remembering so, had give him is medication and to take a bath. My grandma had a hard time working so I had to do her dressing on her foot, cook, clean, laundry ect. Having to care for my grandparents made me want to be able to care for others plus lot seniors don't have companions where they just want company and feel wanted/loved. I enjoy bringing joy to seniors to see them happy and laughing. My personal achievement is everything I learned caring for my grandparents and then helping care for my husbands cousin who has autism. Just joy you see in them and what you also learn from them.

My name is Brian and I can trace my history in the medical field back into the early 90's when I was in the United States Air Force. I have worked as a Paramedic, General Manager, Education Director, Pastor, Youth Pastor and general help. I no longer have any of my licenses because I was involved in an accident in 2009 that left me unable to work in my field. It took me a few years to be able to walk and care for myself but if you met me you would not know I was ever disabled. I am a very caring person and i always have been since i can remember. My grandmother instilled that in me . She couldn't get around much and would wake up with pain in the middle of night . I would wake up and rub her legs because she was having bad spasms. It helped her feel better and made me feel better i could help. I am very passionate about helping others as a caretaker and yoga instructor. My grandma was a kindhearted caregiver to anyone who needed help while she was doing so I would assist her I was five at the time. I went to the nursing home with my granny when I was 16 To visiting a great friend of hers and a CNA was wheeling her back in her room and instead of her taking her time to assure my grandma's friend wasn't in any harm of hurting herself while wheeling her back into her room she hit her barefoot on the doorframe hurting her toes and that really made me mad! right then I knew I wanted to become a caregiver to make a change in the caregiving field. I've been a stay at home mom for a couple of years now, So i am interested in being a caregiver i am a great cook , i like to organize things, clean, go grocery shopping, as well as shopping at the mall or antique stores also going out to lunch. I would like to build a friendship with whom i will be caring for. I helped take care of my great grandma as well as my great aunt. I was very close to them and i am great full i was able to be there for them, recently i took my mom to the eye doctor because she couldn't drive afterwards, when i was sitting there i noticed a lot of senior citizens sitting there by themselves that needed help at the doctors so i realized that's what i wanted to do was to help be there and help people in need for something so simple.
