A little over 10 years ago I got a call from my aunt while at work that my mom had almost fallen from a step ladder at my house. She was by herself and we had just lost my dad to his battle with cancer a few months prior so it was on that day that I quit my job as an event planner to stay home and care for my elderly mother. She has forever changed my view on the importance of caring for loved ones in times of need. My family lost a wonderful soul over a year ago and I find myself wanting to share my compassion, love, and assistance to other seniors who are in need because I believe in sharing this blessing with others to live each day to its fullest.

I became a caregiver because of my great grandma .she lived to be 110 years old.i helped take care of her. until she passed away. i truly enjoyed taking of her,it was so rewarding, after she passed away i decided to become Cna so can give same loving care to somebody. i love what i do. i have been care giver since 1997.

I have been working as a caregiver for more than 15 yrs. now. I am a certified medical assistant and I have worked for many years in that field, mainly in physicians offices, before getting the opportunity to work as a caregiver in a private home. I have cared for many people over the years and know first hand just how important it is for the client, as well as the family members to feel safe and comfortable with the person coming into their homes and tending to their loved ones.

My inspiration for becoming a caregiver came from my experience raising 2 children with developmental challenges. Both of them are wonderful, successful, independent and completely well balanced adults. When my autistic son was about 8, the doctors told me he would never be able to live independently. He now works with people with autism, has had a paper about autism published, has a computer repair business on the side, is a professional photographer, is a part of the Montavilla Emergency Warning Shelter, in Portland, OR working specifically with severe weather readiness, and is also street medic. My other son is in his senior year of college about to earn dual degrees in Elementary Education and Ministry, and is on the Dean's list. I realized that my passion was seeing the needs of a person and finding the right, personal method to create a healthy, successful and happy life for my clients, and never placing limits on what they can do. I have worked with a variety of children and adults with varied needs. I currently work with a senior who enjoyed scrabble and word searches, in their past they loved to do wood working so we do as much of that as they are physically able. My method is to get to know my client, their past hobbies, interests and then continue doing those activities (yes sometimes I have to get creative due to medical needs, my current client has some vision loss, so I have acquired a large, black and white scrabble set). Talking to seniors about their past is also enjoyable as is listening to their favorite music!

I enjoy and appreciate life. I'm very dependable! I've never had a job, that I've enjoyed, as much as working with the elderly. I do enjoy working with early to mid dementia clients. Two things drew my to being a caregiver. 1) my kids grew up too fast! I never stopped feeling the need to take care of someone. 2) I was VERY close to my g'mother, and she was the youngest of 9. So I've always felt comfortable around elderly. And putting a smile on their face or seeing a sigh of relief, because I handled a situation, that they couldn't.... I always tell my families...I am their voice. I always have their back, in what will benefit them. My first goal is to build their trust. Because without it...the road can get a little bumpy.

Im going to say as long as i can rember ive always been a giver and a helper. I love being me and helping others i believe i was born to do this, help. I am a go getter and a people person always. I am proud at 50 i went back to school to learn more in the medical field. I'm a patient person and thorough and reliable. I'm easy going and always pleasant and strive to please
