Hey there! My name is Laura and I think to be a great caregiver you must have compassion and empathy. You must also have great communication skills, and most importantly you must have patience. I wanted to be a caregiver because being able to provide assistance, support, and companionship to those in need makes me feel good. If I discribed myself to someone I would say I'm a giver. I've worked in the medical field for 30 years and loved every minute of it. Most of my life I worked in a physician office doing stress test and lab work. I started sitting with hospice patients five years ago as well as elderly that just needed assistance and a friend. I was a nurse for 28 years and then became ill with several other immune diseases and how to stop that. Turn that time I have always just for caring for people indeed I took care of my mom when she passed I took care of my cousin when he passed with ALS and I took care of my cousin when she had cancer and I thought I can do this I know I can do this so here I am. And as a side note I am the very proud grandparent to two wonderful little girls that live in Dallas Texas, so I do tend to talk about them a lot! Lol

I was eleven yrs old and my grandfather was diagnose with colon cancer. I would spend my summers helping my grandmother care for my grandfather. We did it all, transfers, bathing, changing, distributing of medication and even cleaning of the colostomy bags. Even though some of the care was a little in tense, I recevied joy just knowing I was contributing to his well being. Lets be honest we all have to go down that road one day and I just want the same respect dignity and care that I provide. That was when i decided to be a caregiver. What i like about being a caregiver is that i love helping each client/resident I've ever worked for. Helping the sick/elderly that needs my help gives me happiness knowing im doing my part to help others. My personal achievement that I am proud of would be the day that I finished something that I have started which was the day I received my certification in Nurses Aid.
