I became a Certified Nursing Assistant in my youth before getting married and rasing a family. My children are grown and I have begun working in private home home care. What makes me a great caregiver is being able to meet my client’s needs. I became a caregiver approximately 13 years ago. When I have a client. I don't see them just a client. I see a person that needs help. A person that at one point was able to care for themselves. I became a caregiver due to my mother's illness. She had cancer and was on hospice for the last 2 months of her life. Put before she was on hospice. I would bathe, dressed, brush hair & teeth. Take her to her doctors appointments. Meal prep, medication. Do some shopping and be her Help in all the areas she needed.

I own my car and it is fully insured. I am great listener and I love to hear the stories from my patients. I am patient and understanding. I have a very tender and caring heart. I love animals and children too. I enjoy helping patients return to a healthy status and maintain their smile/dignity. Sometimes, just holding their hand while they walk and talk to their neighbors will brighten their day. Having the reassurance that there is someone there to help them, should they need it, gives them that extra comfort. I frown on caregivers that place their patients in front of the tv and they spend all their time texting on their phone to their friends, ignoring the needs of their patient.

I started caregiving a little over a year ago. I love children. I have a son (8yrs) who has Down Syndrome and has been my inspiration to thrive for the needs of others like him . Helping/ caring for others makes me feel good as well as being able to show my patients that others care for them as well.

What are your personality traits or expertise that help you be a great caregiver? I am a very caring person that loves working with the elderly community. I have been working with the elderly in some capacity since I was much younger. I enjoy listening to their different life stories. They have so much to share. What attracted you to being a caregiver? I find it easier to talk with older adults than the younger generation. My first job at age of 12 was with the elderly women in our community running errands for them. What do you enjoy most about being a caregiver? Watching their faces light up when they are talking is wonderful. What is a personal achievement you are proud of? I once had a teen client that would not talk to anyone. She would just sit in corner and stare at wall. It took an entire year of sitting with her and just chatting out loud before she finally spoke a word. That was a Beautiful day.

I am a loving caring mother of 2 who enjoys taking vare of people. I have been in the caregivers industry for over 7 yrs. with my parents and grandmother being my first clients. The thought of someone else taking care of my parent's is what pushed me to become a care giver. I like being the provider because it gives you the opportunity to make , in some was, a person's last days comfortable. My last client had cancer and I was her provider until she passed. Her family and my client were extremely nive and I am glad that I comforted her in her transition.
