I am a detail-oriented college student who has consistently been praised as hard-working by my teachers and previous managers. During the course of my academic career, I also managed to accrue nearly 25 years of work experience. I have the privilege of working for SIU School of Medicine as a medical office associate where I have learned valuable professional skills such as customer satisfaction, customer service and scheduling. I have over 20 years of experience working in the health care field with the elder and disable adults I truly take proud in helping others for me it is a very rewarding job. Whether working on academic, extracurricular, or professional projects, I apply proven communication, multitasking and teamwork skills, which I hope to utilize in this position as a caregiver.

I enjoy working with the elderly, disabled or any person in need of care, because I am very compassionate and I treat the people as I hope I will be treated when I am in need. I also had a grandpa who as a young girl I helped my mom care for him and he had a stroke which kept him paralyzed, and he also had dementia so my mom taught me how to treat the elderly. Also, my mother use to volunteer at a facility for the mentally challenged and I use to go with her to take them on outings. I loved them so much they called me their "sista", bless their hearts.

I am a very compassionate and patient person. I am loving, kind , a great listener, and I have a love for older experienced adults. I am very detail oriented and organized. I believe that elderly people deserve to be treated with love, kindness, and respect, because they have been around for quite a while and they are wise beyond their years, they have a great amount of knowledge about life, and their stories are amazing and need to be heard by younger generations. The attraction to being a care giver came about when my Great aunt and Uncle decided that it was time for them to go to a retirement village because they could no longer stay home by themselves. My mother and I made sure they received the best care/treatment and were being well taken care of. I cared for both of my parents, my mom had heart surgery in 2014 and my dad's health really went down in 2017 so he was in the hospital and rehab for about 5 months. I helped with staying with him on the weekends to give my mom some breaks. This past August my mom had a hip replacement and I stayed with her for about 6 weeks, I totally took care of her. Helped with bathing, toileting, exercising, walker assistance and her leaning on me to be able to walk. I made all meals, dispersed both parents their meds, grocery shopped, ran errands, retrieved mail, and anything else that she needed or wanted me to do. I feel very passionate about this and I believe only certain people have the ability to work with the elderly. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is that I get to work with elderly adults ,hear their stories and I have the opportunity to have a one on one relationship with someone new, and I get to build a rapport with them and their families or their support system. A personal achievement I am proud of would be that when I take on a position or a job, no matter how large or small it may be, I ALWAYS do the job to the very best of my ability.
