I have been in this field for 13 years now and I really love what I do . I really enjoy being able to help others . I have my CMT , I've been certified for almost three years now . I prep meals , clean, and I do laundry. I have worked with lots of different people. For example people with dementia and altimeters. I've also done just companion care.

What makes me a great caregiver is I love helping others and making them smile. I like hands on work. I'm very responsible, respectful and dependable. I became a caregiver when I first started caring for my grandma who had dementia. The bond you have with your client and the family when you are a great caregiver is a great feeling. I feel that when im older, I would want someone like myself there to help if I need help. Being a caregiver is more then a job, you are responsible for another person's well being.

I have always been more mature for my age. I grew up as an only child, only hanging around adults. I have always had a caring personality and when I was 18 after I graduated high school I started working as a CNA at an adult day care, caring for geriatrics with dementia. I fell in love with them. They may not be able to remember your name or their own name but they can tell you stories about their childhood that bring warmth to your heart. I am very good at caring for geriatrics, making them feel comfortable in embarrassing situations for them (bathing, changing soiled linen) because they still deserve dignity and respect which I make sure they know they have the upmost respect. Some geriatric patients have a hard time with caregiving because they have literally give up every ounce of independence they used to have which is hard to cope with. My personality is very smiley and happy around geriatrics which makes them feel better. I also have a very loud voice which is an advantage with geriatrics since most are hard of hearing, they can hear me because I tend to speak loudly. I am an RN however I love being a caregiver too. I am very good at caring for people, making them feel comfortable, I am very easy to talk to and educating on medical information also.

I have been in the caregiving field for over five years. I too have taken on the responsibility of taking care of loved ones until they passed away. I believe you have to have a special gift to be a caregiver and I definitely have been blessed to have that gift.
