At the age of 41 my best friend was diagnosed with Colon Cancer & my journey began. You are immediately part of a team; patient, family, doctors & yes the disease. Hospice, was what I learned and experienced next. This is where the most important work comes in, nurturing., when just being with another person is all you can do. After the loss of my best friend, there was no way I could go back to pushing paperwork in an office. My first clients were so much fun, two sisters in their late 90's both with Dementia. They loved walking to the park, they even liked the work out equipment at the park. They could actually wear me out there & of course when we would get home, they'd immediately forget that we'd already gone and want to go back, I knew physically they couldnt, and that's the only thing that saved me, it was funny. Finding humor in any situation, keeping the atmosphere light with a charge of calm energy, listening and picking up on non verbal cues, also extremely important. I moved to Fremont CA to help assist with my own grandmother's care. My family all pitched in which gave me the time & opportunity to start working with Carelelinx & three fabulous families over the next three years including the beginning of Covid. I've been working in Nevada for 2 years now. Very exited to become a part of your team. I bring calm energy, experience and ability. What makes me a great caregiver? Well I honestly feel like I was born to serve and take care of loved ones as well as those that cannot take care of themselves. With all honesty I can say I very much care deeply for all my patients. I've been told I'm a compassionate & trust worthy person. Ever since graduating high school & passing the Red Cross CNA licensing exam I've had plenty of different types of caring gigs. From just pure companionship to changing condom catheters/dressings. I'm grateful for all the skills I've learned so far but I'm eager to learn more ways to care for our most vulnerable population. I've always vowed to treat everybody with kindness & compassion like if they were my own family since unfortunately I couldn't prevent my own grandma from suffering from elder abuse. Caregiving isn't really a career or "job" for me. I had my own business for over 28 years& after I had serious side effects from chemotherapy.& spent14 yrs of doing the best of western &'eastern therapies&'every modality of alternative medicine I could think of, I made a pack that at this point in my life , I would do something to help ease another's pain & try to bring some comfort, harmony & happiness into their lives. I tend to think I can relate well to another's stress level , pain or memory problems as I certainly had my own! My 1st experience with dementia up close was with my own mother. My father was aware & concerned what would happen to her if he passed. I assured him I would keep her in her home. I lived with her for 18 months & it was not always easy! I was the youngest gal in her neighborhood so I was the driver to the market, movies, gambling etc. I learned volumes. After she passed I worked coaching women with different challenges / illnesses. I've been caregiving on& off for the past8 yrs. I truly enjoy it's! I think I have a pretty clear understanding of the frustrations of a declining memory & the health challenges that come with it. Also, I'm in the age bracket that relates to the music, movies & way of life that they do. It's hard for a young person to have the knowledge of understanding pain, dementia & health issues that come with the latter years.I've meet some wonderful young compassionate caregivers that can put on depends faster than I can ,but, I am quite surprised how little they are trained in different dementia,illnesses or CPR. I never want to stop learning. I'm proud that I am quick in emergency situations.& have helped save a few lifes. I'm patient, tolerant, kind & I'm also quite fun! That's so important! I've always liked to nurture others& now that I have all the free time with no significant other ,this is what I've chosen to do. Thank you!

A lot of my employers ask me why am I in this field at a young age. I started at 19 and am now 24, and I honestly just love the elderly. They deserve amazing care! I love to talk and ask them about their past and assist them while giving them independence. I am a very well multitasker and I have a lot patience learning that from working at the retirement home. I'm studying for my LVN boards and am a Theatre major at El Camino college. I've even had some residents from my other job come and see me perform in a play! That was so heart warming and amazing!

I became a Caregiver caring for my grandfather after he suffered 2 strokes. Helping him gain back his strength and health gave me a passion for this field of work. My mother was a caregiver so I decided to follow in her footsteps. I feel that I've brought a lot of joy and positivity to those I take care of and enjoy the work I do.
