Hi my name is Shannon and I feel the act of caregiving is an honor. It's a great way to respect our elders. I've had All timers and dementia patients. I like to assist my dementia patients by reading to them or we would listening to music. I think it's best to always just following their lead . My previous family mother lost her battle with cancer. But this particular client was special. She was a civil rights leader. She shared such awesome stories. And on the days where her illness just took over I was there to hold her hand and make sure she had everything she needed to be comfortable.

I am extremely, nurturing, respectful and attentive caregiver. Making my seniors comfortable and independent as possible. I am trustworthy ,reliable, and loyal with a heart for working with the elderly. I have the knowledge and skill set to provide assistance with bathing, and daily personal grooming care. Medication management, and I understand the challenges of Alzheimer's/Dementia and will actively engage in a meaningful way to enrich and maintaining a healthy daily schedule. I am a passionate care giver with over 4 years experience in care. I have previous experience a certified nurse assistant and I keep up with recent trends and my license is up to date. The reason for becoming a caregiver is that I wanted more 1 to 1 interactions with patients being that working at the hospital patients come and go and it's extremely difficult to build relationships. I have since taken care of a patient (hired privately) for 3 years and she has now passed. I've been married for 19 years which is one of my biggest accomplishment's to date, my husband was diagnosed with end stage renal failure at the beginning of our marriage. So at the age of 19 I became a mom and wife all in one year and then a caregiver to my a very sick husband. I cared for him and a growing family which presented many challenges that I learned to overcome which makes me very adaptable. Well I've been doing this for about 20 years what made me stick with it was my grandma she told me one day I'll be older and can't do much for myself so always respect and give good care to the elderly and I will be blessed with someone taking care of me when im not able so as the years go on I really understand what she was telling me.

Being a caregiver is a very rewarding career for me, I love seeing the smile, hearing all the interesting stories and assisting others. In this career I feel there are certain qualities one must have such as patience, a good ear to listen, and a very positive attitude , whether assisting any age group. I feel I convey those qualities in myself and love what I do. There is always something new to learn, and many ways to improve in your daily activities.
