My name is Sherri Harper, and I have 30 years of experience in customer service and care giving. Most recently, I attended the Caroline Center obtaining my CNA and GNA certification. Prior to attending the Caroline Center, I had several positions that enabled me to be observant, patient, caring, and compassionate. In addition, these positions enabled me the ability to multi-task and problem-solving utilizing critical thinking. My passion as a caregiver began with my grandparents, who I took care of at home on hospice until they passed. This ignited a desire to ensure our seniors had an advocate to assist and care for them at all times. I have additional experience caring for my god-sister's mother and several church members family.

Passionate providing help

I have always been someone who wants to help others. If I can do something for someone and in the end, they are happy then I did a good thing. I have had several clients I've cared for through friends and family who needed someone. I started by taking care of my grandparents. It felt really good knowing they needed me and I was a Le to be there for them. It was very rewarding to me. When I was a little girl, my mom would take me and my brothers to visit my great-grandmother in a convalescent home. It always made me sad to see all these grandparents in these rooms who had no one to come and visit them. So I think that's when I decided one day I would like to go and visit them, even if it's just for five minutes just maybe brighten their day. Doing that, made me feel good that I could make someone else happy.

I became a caregiver because I have a compassionate heart. I enjoy helping others I am proud of being able to always keep my integrity, it is who I am. I have worked on high profile and VIP cases with different RN'S, I have worked in facilities, I was a live -in caregiver as well.

I'm multi lingual, speak Spanish and English and I love to interact with people while assisting with their immediate needs. I'm a loving mother of an autistic son, and I understand patience and love conquers any challe ging situation when a child or and adult is going through mental distress. I've worked for NYC Department of Homeless Services for several years specifically the men Department and witness the most vulnerable population in our state. My position didn't allow me to be as impactful as I wanted to be so I decided to enter the health field to assist the population in need. My biggest achievement were reuniting the youth with their family members and settling challenges ging disputes.

I remember during freshman year in college seeing an advertisement for live-in caregiver. I needed a job and was living in a dorm not far away. I applied and from 1977 until now I have enjoyed the privilege of caring for those unable to care for themselves. What I enjoy most is the look of appreciation on their face. It helps me want to continue in this field and is why I am seeking to continue in it. It is very rewarding in that I am giving someone a reason to live, smile and keep going as if they are not unable to do for themselves. So far, I have met some of the most precious individuals who love me as if I am a part of their family. That, makes it all the more rewarding. I love the work so much I have managed to take a Certified Nurses Assistant course in 2008. I have been on the registry since. I am currently seeking another assignment as soon as possible because I want to give back what was freely given to me, the chance t make a difference in someones life, to help give the chance to live a healthier, longer life in the manner in which they are accustomed. I have raised my only child and he is now an adult. I live alone therefore if gives me the time to be off help to someone in need.I enjoy reading, puzzles and walks in the park or on the beach. I am a great caregiver because I am a very loving and caring person. I currently work with the mentally challenged and seniors with disabilities. I have been working in this field for the past 7 years. I work with all age groups ranging from newborns to elderly adults of all mental capacities.

I consider myself to be a passionate person. Although my career path has not been in the health industry, I have been apart of it for quite awhile. My father in 1994 had a stroke and it caused him to be paralyzed. I was the first one to volunteer to sit with the nurse and take on the responsibility of providing aide for him in all aspects of his life. I am the person no matter what situation I am in will give what I have to help someone else. I am fast learner, dependable, and responsible. I love to love and help others its just who I am; from babies to adults it doesn't matter all there has to be is a need. My best personal achievement was relocating my family to a new state, and graduating college while working full time. It took almost 15 years being a single mother of six to accomplish, but I did it with hard work and dedication. To show my children that no matter what obstacles they face if they work hard and don't give up anything is possible. Everyone deserves love and proper care and if given the opportunity I am sure I can give the attention and support that is needed.
