I am patient and caring. I helped my grandmother when she had surgery so I decided to help elderly people. The thing I enjoy best about being a caregiver is helping the client to feel comfortable and happy by taking care of them or doing an activity together. A personal achievement that I am proud of is catching my client when she has a fall.

Hello I'm Maria murry, I have been a caregiver for 4 years. I am patient and very caring and those things make me an awesome caregiver. Caring for our seniors is incredibly important, they have lived such incredible lives and cared for others for years and one day it becomes out turn to care for them. We have to be sure that the care they receive is as excellent as their care was for others. I am currently in college and a single mom of 3 children and love them very much. I live being a caregiver because i can't find anything more satisfying in life then caring and being helpful to others.

After a career in dentistry, 15 years as a hygienist, which includes working for the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers. I became her 24/7 caregiver for the next 5 years until her death. My mom had COPD and required oxygen at all times. Alzheimers made that tricky as she had to be reminded (sometimes every few minutes) why there were tubes blowing air in her nose and why she was attached to a machine. Caring for her required many skills; some I had, some I acquired. Skills such as communication, compassion, cleaning, time management, organization, and flexibility were honed. Obervation skills were heightened, and I learned I was both physically and emotionally strong. Patience was key and the Alzheimers Association was incredibly helpful. As I learned about the disease I became better at caring for my mom and both our lives improved! Establishing trust and rapport was not difficult, but doing it every day as if for the first time, required a level of empathy and patience that not everyone can manage. Alzheimers is a progressive disease. As her demensia progressed, I had to become more creative and continue to develop excellent caregiving skills. The experience changed me in many ways. I used to be a chatty Cathy with a gold medal in shopping. Now I understand why we have one mouth but two ears. I am more likely to be found walking with my dogs or feeding squirrels from my deck than wearing out my Visa at Macy's. I discovered life is about the little things. I found a peace, that even in the toughest times, keeps me grateful for every obstacle/challenge that I am lucky enough to experience. I learned that helping people, assisting, easing a worry or a task brings me fulfillment. It really IS better to give than receive. My mom taught me that.

I feel One of my callings is a care giver. I love to help people who need it. It makes so proud n happy to have been of some assistance to get something done.

I started my career as a caregiver in a nursing home and that is where I received my CNA license. I knew at that time being a caregiver was definitely my calling. I went on to get my medical assistant certifications and LVN degree through Harris Hospital. I have worked as a caregiver for 15 years and would never do anything else. Working with seniors is so rewarding to me and I have worked with dementia through ALS patients and treat all of my patients as if they were my own family. I have wonderful references as well as a great background check. I think it's very important to have background checks and really get to know not only the patient but the family as well.
