Hi! My name is Rosa, I am an introvert but nonetheless a hard worker, enjoy working with the elderly and disabled community. I am constantly asking my patients how I can accommodate them. If they ask me to go an inch I will go a mile. I enjoy listening to their stories, playing games & running personal errands for them. I believe in having a good work ethic and keeping my patients happy. I will always do my best.

I was 15 years old and just started my freshman year of high school when I was placed in a class called Intergenerational Studies. For 2 hours each day I was taken to the nursing home called Golden Years there in Elgin, Tx. I started off just getting residents from their rooms to come and do activities with me. But it wasn't long and I was working side by side with CNAs, RNs, and at one point the DON had me shadow her for 2 weeks. I just got really interested and a few years after graduation and having my son, I pursued a CNA certification and was assigned the hospice hall and the "lockdown unit" which was occupied by the more violent patients and those with conditions such as Alzheimer's and/or parkinson's, as well as those with behavioral health conditions. I honestly just fell in love with everything about caring for the elderly. Even the hard and very emotional side of the care I provide is something I wouldn't want to stop doing. I would love to get my CNA back but just haven't attempted to do so since my husband passed in 2011. Since my high school days I have worked with all ages of people, from a 2 year old little princess to a 98 year old gentleman I referred to as Fred Astaire due to them looking like twins. He loved it and would smile so big when I walked in every day; and every day he would say "Good morning Ms. Judy (Garland). You feel like dancing the day away?" It's things like that for which I love my work. Please feel free to ask anything, I would love to tell everything now but there is just so much I've been blessed to have experienced with so many different people I'd never be done.

When I first became a caregiver, I knew it was the job for me- it was love for the job at first experience. Years later, what keeps me coming back is that this is what I excel in. I am a great caregiver because I am empathetic but I'm also strong. I know how to hold space for people, which is allowing them to have their feelings and be validated in a way that often helps diffuse and solve potentially problematic situations. I could work in many fields, and I have, but as a caregiver, I know how to make a real difference. I know how to listen, I know how to help, I know how to handle emergencies. My caregiving journey began over a decade(!) ago with my grandmothers diagnosis and struggles of MS. Through my grandmother I realized that even strong, independent and energetic people may at times in their life find that they are in need of extra care and compassion. I wanted my grandmother to still experience enrichment in her life and that feeling has carried over to empathy for others in their own needs. For years I have pursued that mission.
