I have a background on Social Work and have been doing caregiving since 2001 when I took an interim job with a lady who had Alzheimer's. I was hooked! I have been a caregiver ever since. I find I love the one-on-one interactions and the opportunity to be helpful to an elderly person. I spent time daily with my grandparents growing up and have always loved older people. I am loving, caring, dependable, responsible and am someone who "gets the job done" when something needs to be taken care of. I have helped with all activities of daily living, provided transportation to appointments and shopping, have done hair (a little), laundry, light housekeeping, monitored and gave medications. I have always been in close contact with families so that they are aware of my client's needs and they also help me to be aware of the client's needs and personalities. Communication is key.

Hi! My name is Shenya I am currently a junior Nursing major at Georgia State University. My attraction to caregiving started with my grandmother who was ill most of my life. I helped my family out a lot when it came to her health. I helped her bathe, cook, made sure she took the proper medication for the day and also refill her medicine. I cared for her from 2012-2015. Even though my experience is limited I do have the knowledge from learning over the past few years.

I am upbeat and very friendly! I'm very compassionate and patient. Some things I feel that makes me a great caregiver is my integrity, punctuality, reliability, and my ability to observe and learn my clients pretty quickly. What attracts me to being a caregiver in particularly is I am passionate about helping the elderly because I've witnessed the negligence that elder people endure. It's very heartbreaking to see, so being that one good caregiver who is able to give the care I wish to receive for myself and my loved ones, if ever needed, makes a difference for me. What I enjoy the most about being a caregiver is seeing the smiles and laughs on my clients faces, it makes me feel good and like I'm doing something right. A personal achievement I am very proud of is being a strong advocator for my clients who can't advocate for themselves. For example, I have a client who is cognitive impaired and is living in a nursing facility. On several occasions I've stopped nurses from giving her the wrong medications, amongst other things. I can honestly say I really love what I do, and I love and care for my clients like they are family!

I grew up living and taking care of my grandmother and there was nothing more joyous than making her smile and cheering her up. I truly could say I love that I am able to meet and work with different clients with different personalities . I been attracted to the medical field when I was 16 , when my mother took me to work with her . Than I began to create bonds with her clients and enjoyed helping out . Once I was old enough I started to volunteer at assistant / senior livings then I started working in different facilities . I've mostly worked with a lot of memory clients and assisted living clients which I Enjoyed .
