I started as a direct support professional for adults with developmental disabilities. I also have extensive experience with senior care, memory care, rehabilitation, & as a home care assistant. I have 7 years of experience as a caregiver. I have worked with people with dementia and Alzheimers. I have showered previous clients, helped with transfers, light house keeping duties, and helped prep meals. What I like about my job is I get to help people with there needs and do something I always had enjoyed, I love getting to know people and share about their life style their likes and companionship and I think it is great to know how can we make a difference in people's life. Since I was a very young girl when asked what I want to do I've always been able to respond in the same way: I want to help people. I've always been driven to grow and improve. This desire also extends out to the people around me. As a caregiver, I go out of my way to ensure my client's needs are met before that of my own. Serving older adults is my passion and my vocation. I consider myself a life-enrichment care partner and truly feel I am in a place of honor when spending time with those I serve. I am applying to nursing school this fall as I look forward to becoming an RN and continuing my gift of giving physical and emotional support to others. Something that I feel is a strength of mine is my ability to provide uplifting, emotional support. I can provide a letter of recommendation from an individual whom I worked with (in home care) for nine months.

Over 20 yrs experience caring for people of all ages and abilities. 5+ yrs as a CNA in PDX first working in a small facility for people w/ HIV/AIDS then onto temping at LTC Facilities all over PDX. 18 years working for UCP, OR w/ adults w/ CP & intellectual disabilities. 5+ yrs as an "Enhanced Worker" HCW doing in-home care for Aging & Disability Services. The best part about being a caregiver is getting to know the person you're taking care of and knowing that you're making their life better. I've had a great opportunity to work with clients with many different with many types of specific care needs, and I always handle them with delicate and attentive care . I'm an upbeat person that wants nothing but the best for the people I work for.

What are your personality traits or expertise that help you be a great caregiver? - As an artist, I tend to see the little things that many overlook. I have been told by many of my clients, coworkers, friends and family, that I am a calming spirit to be around. I have experience working with individuals with physical and psychiatric disabilities. What attracted you to being a caregiver? - I always loved people and have a motherly desire to care for others. What do you enjoy most about being a caregiver? - I love hearing about the people's lives and connecting with them. -- I am teaching my son American Sign Language, while I am not fluent I do hope to be one day. I also understand a little bit of Spanish, although I can read it better than speak it.

When I was a teenager, I provided care for my uncle when he was really sick and bedridden. I was on vacation and decided to be with him instead. He improved after a couple of months and I helped him with transferring, feeding, comfort, toileting and grooming. I really enjoyed assisting him and knew I wanted to become a caregiver or a nurse. I really love providing for the needs of my patients, improving their care and giving back to the patients and families. Sometimes the joy you see in their faces after a job, and the smile and thank you makes all the hard work worth your time. During my job, and past experience, I have assisted coworkers to help patients that needed extensive help such as transferring, toileting, grooming and companionship. I am a reliable person, friendly, organized, patient, hard working, strong, and flexible. I love helping others and always have this smile on my face that gives hope and happiness to others. I'm patient, kind, trustworthy, compassionate I have a disable son at home and I love helping people, I love seeing other people happy. I have been working in the medical field for over 20 years, I also have a disable son at home that I take care of.

I'm a people person. I'm flexible and compatible with, I would say, just about every personality type. Just for the simple fact that I accept people for who they are and where they are. I like to say, essentially, I will meet them where they're at in life. What attracted me to being a caregiver is my desire to help people live as free and independent as possible. I enjoy being a caregiver because I love people and their company and I love hearing their stories of where they've been and what they've done. I think what I love most about being a caregiver is just the fact that I'm empowered to give a piece of myself to someone, to hopefully make their life better or more comfortable. I have a lot of achievements, but I think the one that I'm most proud of is the one where I had a client who would not allow anyone to draw their blood or do any kind of testing on them that was really necessary to make things better for them and get them a proper health care assessment. But, they were willing to put down their guard for me. Because of me they allowed work to be done and I can't tell you how thrilled I was that I would have that effect on somebody.

I've tried many different jobs through out my life and have found the most satisfaction in caring for others. I enjoy helping others in any way I can. I'm a single mom of an 11 year old boy.
