I became a caregiver because I enjoy helping our seniors with everyday life, I enjoy learning about their lives, I like for them to know that they still matter even as they grow older, that someone still has time for conversation. I know that their families have busy lives and while they do care very much for their elders, their everyday lives are complicated with taking care of everyday issues like the bills. I want to be that person they can lean on to let their aging family member know how special they are to them, I do not want to replace them, I just want to be there when they cannot. I have been in the senior caregiver field for 33 years. I have always felt drawn to this field and love talking with the elderly, hearing their stories and life experiences, and I find the job very rewarding. I get a feeling of accomplishment when I can make another person smile and feel a sense of comfort because of the way I am. I've worked as a cna and caregiver for over 15 years. I feel confident in my work and compassionate about those I care for. I've cared for very sick individuals as well as those who just need an extra hand or simply just companionship. I am a responsible and hard working person who also believes in being on time. Provide companionship, assist with walking and home physical therapy. prepare current and future meals, medication reminders, assist with bathe, grooming, dressing and toileting. Light housekeeping. Being a caregiver is my calling I have always been responsible for caring for others my mother when she became ill and two special daughters one which is in a wheelchair and the other with special needs who are both grown and somewhat independent. Last night, I went to my overnight shift to one of my greatest client. I saved her life. She's having surgery this morning. It feels good hearing her calling my name and said: Josie, you didn't have to come. I know you're not doing it for money, but you know my fear if hospital. You comfort me. You're no longer my caregiver. You're my friend. She called up her children, and they started calling me. It feels great! I have a purpose. I am alive. I'm not just existing. Bringing comfort to someone in their lonely time, or their last moment....what greatest achievement there is? She was smiling. I hold her hands and all of a sudden the hospital becomes a luxury hotel room. If I never accomplish nothing more in this life. I will always cherish all my moments being a caregiver. To be trusted. To be considered as a friend and as a family. To bring smile and peace to someone face. I'm pastor Josie. I believe in treat others as you would like to be treated- I lived by the Golden rules.
