I have been a caregiver for over 5 years. The last client I had was a great person, He was 88 years young and he was a joy to take care of, unfortunately I lost him this past March. I felt like I lost a member of my family. I totally enjoy taking care of our senior citizens because they deserve it, They have been thru so much and now that they are at a stand still (some citizens need the help to walk, cook and be pampered)and I am able to help out. As the mother of two adult children one of which is autistic, I believe that I encompass a sense of flexibility, patience, kindness, acceptance, and the knowledge of giving my daughter and others ownership of what they believe is right for them at their stage. When my father was diagnosed with dementia I had to assist my mother in taking care of him. My father showed me a different side of himself, through conversations he allowed me to learn about his life from the past even though he didn't know what was happening today. He was able to share with me his experiences in the past which helps me to understand who he had become and why he had become that person. My daughter being autistic automatically made me a caregiver. I am very proud of the success that she has achieved. We have brought her up to have dignity, a voice, and understanding of what her disability is and what her limitations are. I've enjoyed being a caregiver because I love to get to know people, I enjoy going and doing things with others that make them happy, going out to eat, shopping, whatever is going to bring them joy. In October 2019 my husband and I were hit by a semi, I broke my pelvis. I was not sure if I would be able to walk. My biggest achievement from that point forward is that today I am able to walk up to 5 miles with no assistance

I am a great caregiver since I love what I do. I love helping people, I feel it is my call to help the people that can't take care of themselves.
